James Bond 25 PLOT revealed: Rami Malek is ‘mysterious villain’ as synopsis is confirmed

A live broadcast today failed to reveal the official title of Bond 25, but it did throw up some interesting official details.

Among them, we now know that Bohemian Rhapsody star Rami Malek is – per previous rumours – on board, most likely as an antagonist, judging by his video message.

Ana de Armas, Dali Benssalah, David Dencik, Lashana Lynch and Billy Magnussen complete the headline cast.

With principle photography set to begin on April 28, it remains to be seen what exactly the footage shot in Norway earlier this month was for.

Regardless, an official plot synopsis has been revealed in a press release.

It says: “Bond has left active service and is enjoying a tranquil life in Jamaica.

“His peace is short-lived when his old friend Felix Leiter from the CIA turns up asking for help.

“The mission to rescue a kidnapped scientist turns out to be far more treacherous than expected, leading Bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with dangerous new technology.”

Michael G Wilson and Barbara Broccoli remarked: “We’re thrilled to return to Jamaica with Bond 25, Daniel Craig’s fifth instalment in the 007 series, where Ian Fleming created the iconic James Bond character and Dr No and Live And Let Die were filmed.”

Malek was first reported to be the villain several months ago, though today marks the first official confirmation.

In his video message, he said: “Stuck here in New York in production looking forward to joining the whole cast and crew all very soon.

“I will be making sure Mr Bond doesn’t have an easy ride in this.”

He added: “Can’t wait to see you all soon.”

Returning stars include Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, Rory Kinnear, Léa Seydoux, Ben Whishaw and Jeffrey Wright.

The film is written by Neal Purvis, Robert Wade, Scott Z. Burns, Cary Joji Fukunaga and Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Fukunaga directs.

This is Craig’s fifth and final film as the iconic spy: following Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall and Spectre.

Bond 25 is out on April 3 in the UK and April 8 in the USA.
