The Bay on ITV: ‘This was a waste’ Viewers disappointed as Dylan's KILLER unmasked

Dylan (played by Noah Valentine) and his twin sister Holly Meredith (Darci Shaw) became central to the plot of ITV drama, The Bay, as the death of the youngster led to the mysterious disappearance of his sibling.

After Holly was found by officer DS Lisa Armstrong (Morven Christie) during episode four, it was revealed last week the teenager was pregnant.

In tonight’s sixth and final episode of the series, it was revealed Dylan’s killer was actually the father to Holly’s baby and friend of Lisa’s son, Rob Armstrong (Art Parkinson), Sam (Louis Greatorex).

The councillor’s son made the confession to Lisa in the final part of the episode, detailing how Dylan’s death was an accident.

Dylan discovered Sam was planning on running away with Holly after the teenager discovered she was pregnant.

However, following an altercation between the two boys as Dylan tried to stop them, one fatal blow from Sam led the youngster to hit his head and die from his injuries.

As Lisa had been suspended, she couldn’t arrest the teenager, so escorted Sam to the station where he made the confession to the police.

Although viewers were caught off-guard by the killer reveal, they weren’t too happy with how the series ended.

Taking to Twitter, one viewer posted: “Disappointed with that. Six episodes to be delivered that b***** ending!!!#TheBay”

Another added: “My invested time is expensive. I’m asking for a refund. This was a waste #thebay,” with a third adding: “Well the ending isn’t as jaw-dropping as I would have hoped for #TheBay.”

“Anyone else super disappointed with this ending? #TheBay,” a fourth asked, but not everyone was deterred by the conclusion to the six-part drama.

A fifth opined: “Did not expect that at all, what a great series #TheBay, whereas others were in two minds.

“Not gonna lie I was shocked but kinda expected a bigger plot twist for the reveal… #thebay,” a sixth remarked.

The teenager had been dating Lisa’s daughter Abbie Armstrong (Imogen King) before deciding to run away with Holly when the young lovers discovered they were going to be parents.

Sam’s confession tonight came after Holly admitted to killing her brother in last week’s fifth episode of the series, seemingly covering for her lover.

As well as the discovery of Dylan’s killer, Lisa also found herself uncovering another mystery involving her teenager daughter.

When Abbie disappeared at the beginning of the episode, the mother went looking for her only to discover the youngster being given drugs to sell.

The shock discovery was the catalyst which led to the apprehension and arrest of Vincent (Adam Long) who had been grooming Abbie since episode one.

It was later revealed Sean Meredith (Jonas Armstrong) was also embroiled in the drug plot and faced a lengthy sentence for his part in the criminal network.

With some questions still yet to answered, will there be a second season of the ITV thriller?

The Bay is now available on ITVHub.
