Galaxy S8 owners should check for the 'critical' Samsung update right now

Owners of the Galaxy S8 are advised to check for the latest update from Samsung right now.

This vital upgrade was announced earlier this month and brings some important security patches to the firm’s flagship devices.

The Galaxy Note range was the first to receive this essential update and now it seems Samsung is ready to push things out to its Galaxy S8.

According to SamMobile, users across the globe have begun receiving the April security download and there’s a big reason why everyone should check if this upgrade is available.

Some of the issues that are being fixed are so serious that Samsung has labelled them critical with one even allowing remote attackers to execute arbitrary code on a target’s device.

Confirming the update Samsung said: “Samsung Mobile is releasing a maintenance release for major flagship models as part of monthly Security Maintenance Release (SMR) process. This SMR package includes patches from Google and Samsung.”

And in a post on its security website, the tech firm added: “At Samsung, we take security and privacy issues very seriously and we are doing our best to respond as quickly as possible.

“Securing your device and maintaining the trust you place in us is our top priority.

“Samsung releases monthly and quarterly security updates on selected Samsung devices.

“Monthly and quarterly security updates will include patches for Android OS related security issues released by Google, as well as, patches for Samsung-specific security issues.”

Although the S8 is getting its upgrade now there are more devices also set for the vital fix.

Here is a list of devices that will receive the update over the coming weeks.

Galaxy S7 Active, Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+, Galaxy S8 Active, Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9+, Galaxy S10, Galaxy S10+, Galaxy S10e, Galaxy Note 8, Galaxy Note 9, Galaxy A5 (2017), Galaxy A8 (2018)

To check if your smartphone is ready simply head to Settings and Software Update.

The news of this update comes as Samsung has just confirmed that it is delaying the launch of the new Galaxy Fold.

This radical bendable phone was due to go on sale later this week in the US but issues discovered with the screen during early reviews has meant Samsung wants more time before releasing this device.

In a statement on its website, Samsung said: “We recently unveiled a completely new mobile category: a smartphone using multiple new technologies and materials to create a display that is flexible enough to fold.

“We are encouraged by the excitement around the Galaxy Fold.

“While many reviewers shared with us the vast potential they see, some also showed us how the device needs further improvements that could ensure the best possible user experience.

“To fully evaluate this feedback and run further internal tests, we have decided to delay the release of the Galaxy Fold. We plan to announce the release date in the coming weeks.

“We value the trust our customers place in us and they are always our top priority.

“Samsung is committed to working closely with customers and partners to move the industry forward. We want to thank them for their patience and understanding.”
