Barcelona fans urges club to send Philippe Coutinho back to England after poor display

Coutinho has come under severe criticism for his performances for Barcelona, since making his £142million move from Liverpool in January 2018.

And the latest condemnation of the Brazilian came after he picked up a yellow card against Alaves during the Catalan giants’ 2-0 victory last night.

When the club’s official twitter account tweeted out an update about Coutinho’s booking, it sparked outrage from fans calling for the player to be sold.

One fan responded on Twitter by saying: “Should be sent back to England.”

Another said: “Send him back to England.”

One Barca fan also called for him to be replaced by his compatriot.

They said: “Malcom in please.”

Coutinho has mustered only five goals and two assists in 32 La Liga appearances this season, a figure considerably short of the the other two players leading Barcelona’s front three.

Lionel Messi has 33 goals and 13 assists in the league, while Luis Suarez has 22 goals and six assists.

Coutinho is aware of the discontent that exists amongst Barca fans and it came to a head during the recent match against Manchester United in the Champions League quarter-finals.

During the second-leg of the tie Coutinho found the net with a stunning effort into the top corner and proceeded to celebrate the goal by sticking his fingers in his ears.

After the game he explained his actions.

“I have always been a person with respect for everyone,” Coutinho said.

“The truth is that this is so people see that a lot of times I have to cover my ears to maintain my focus on the game or on my work to avoid (noise) affecting me.

“And well, for a lot of the media, I don’t have this respect, how I work and how I dedicate myself to the games and the training sessions.

”It was like a liberation.

“So that they can see a lot of the time I have to cover my ears to be able to do my job.”
