A Place in the Sun: ‘I was ignorant’ Presenter Jasmine Harman reflects on filming regret

A Place In The Sun presenter Jasmine Harman, 43, said she was “ignorant” when she previously milked a cow on set and now refuses to film scenes she doesn’t agree with. Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, she said: “I’ve always been vegetarian but since I’ve gone vegan I feel like I don’t have to promote anything that I don’t agree with. Whereas before I used to feel like a bit like… like with milking a cow and stuff like that… at the time I was vegetarian I didn’t even realise that there was any problem with the dairy industry. I was ignorant. I didn’t have a moral objection and moral awareness to know.”

Since becoming vegan, Jasmine admitted she has refused to film particular scenes, such as filming on a fish market in Cape Verde.

The mother-of-two said she put filming to a halt when witnessing graphic scenes involving fish.

She divulged: “We stepped down into the fish market and all the fisherman were coming in from the sea.

“They were bringing the fish in from the sea and chopping them up,” she added.

“The floor was red and awash with blood. I just couldn’t.”

Reflecting on what she said to the producers, she continued: “I just said, ‘No, I’m not going in there, sorry.

“‘I’m not going wading through fish blood.’”

Jasmine also recalled the time she said no to filming in a restaurant which sold “succulent pig”.

She revealed: “I had just given birth and had just gone back to work with my newborn son and I was breast feeding.

“I said to the director, ‘Are you actually asking me to promote a place that kills babies when they’re still breastfeeding from their mothers and eats them when I’ve got a baby myself?’”

“I was like, ‘Are you absolutely insane? There is no way that I am going to do that’.”

Jasmine has been fronting the property show for 15 years and admitted she has no plans to leave.

She said: “I’ve never considered leaving the show to work on other things.

“I’ve obviously worked on others because I’m not filming every week. Theres plenty of room to do other things if I wanted to.”

“For as long as they want me and the more they continue making shows I hope I’ll still be involved in it,” she concluded.

A Place In The Sun airs weekdays on Channel 4 at 3pm.
