Strictly Come Dancing 2019: Craig Revel Horwood tips X Factor judge to replace Darcey

Darcey announced earlier this month that she would not be returning to Strictly Come Dancing.

Speculation over who will be replacing her on the BBC show has been rampant ever since the announcement.

Left on the panel is head judge Shirley Ballas, Bruno Tonioli and Craig Revel Horwood.

The latter has now spoken out on who he’d want to take over the position, suggesting that former X Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger would be a good pick.

He told Australia’s TV Week: ”She’d be fabulous. And Anton du Beke definitely wants to do it. I’d love to see Nicole, or Carlos [Acosta].

“But nobody has actually expressed anything to me. And I’m generally the last to find out!”

Although Craig did add he has no influence over who is chosen for the position.

He continued: ”No, of course not! But it doesn’t matter if I don’t get on with them.

“The difference of opinion is rather good, generally. For me it’s of no concern. I just hope they choose the right person and they know what they’re talking about.”

Anton du Beke has been a professional dancer on every series so far.

He recently declared that he was “certainly qualified” for the job in an appearance on Graham Norton’s BBC Radio 2 show.

Anton divulged: ”I’m certainly qualified. I suspect there will be conversations going on.

“You know how it works in telly. It’s one of those things. I’m definitely qualified to do it. I’d love to do it.

“But then I have to wait to be asked, in the normal way. I wish I could make the decision for them.

“But then if I could do that, I would have made the final 12 times.”

Darcey announced she would be leaving the programme in statement, confirming it was to focus on her other dance commitments.

She said in a post: “It has been a complete privilege for me to be part of Strictly, working with such a talented team.

“I have enjoyed every minute of my time and will miss everyone from my fellow judges, the presenters, the dancers, the musicians, the entire back stage team, and especially the viewers of the show, who have been so supportive.

“I am not leaving because of any upset or disagreement at all, I am just stepping away to give more focus to my many other commitments in dance, after seven truly wonderful years that I can’t imagine having gone any better.

“I know I will miss being part of this unique show and the fact that it celebrates dance is something I am so passionate about. I hope that I may be very lucky to be asked back again one day.”

Strictly Come Dancing is expected to return to BBC One later this year.
