Philippines Duterte threatens Trudeau with WAR after tonnes of rubbish dumped in Manila

Dozens of shipping containers filled with Canadian household and electronic garbage has reportedly been rotting in the port for up to six years. A total of 103 containers labelled as plastics were sent to the Philippines for recycling in 2013 and 2014, Montreal Gazette reported. However, Filipino customs inspectors noted the containers were actually filled with household garbage.

President Duterte said: “For Canada’s garbage, I want a boat prepared.

“I’ll give a warning to Canada maybe next week that they better pull that thing out or I will set sail.

“I will advise Canada that your garbage is on the way.

“Prepare a grand reception. Eat it if you want to.”

A Filipino court has ordered the trash to be returned to Canada in 2016.

However, Canada has been trying to get the Philippines to dispose of the waste there.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has previously said it is “theoretically possible” for the country to take the trash back.

An inspection reportedly found the containers were filled with plastic bottles and bags, households garbage and adult nappies, BBC News reported.

Mr Duterte warned he will dump the rubbish at the Canadian embassy in Makati.

He added he could fire the Bureau of Customs personnel who allowed the waste into the country.

He said: “Next week, this Customs, next time they do it, I will sack all of them. It’s not Jagger’s fault, this issue is old. I told Jagger, Customs chief, to send them back.”

The garbage problem is just one of the issues Mr Duterte and Mr Trudeau are clashing over.

The Canadian prime minister has been very critical of the Filipino president who was elected in 2016.
