Did you see Eric Dier’s hilarious reaction as Vincent Janssen came on for Tottenham?

The forgotten £17million striker had not played since August 2017 thanks to injuries and some shocking form since his big-money move from AZ Alkmaar.

And judging by the pictures, some of his team-mates were amused by his presence at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.

With Mauricio Pochettino’s side struggling to break down their stubborn visitors, Janssen was sent on by the boss with 10 minutes left to pay for his first appearance in a Tottenham shirt in a whopping 611 days.

Eric Dier had been sat on the bench along with his team-mate and his hilarious reaction was caught on camera.

Dier was in stitches as Janssen received instructions before taking to the pitch.

He could hardly contain his amusement as he slapped his thighs but looked genuinely excited at the prospect of seeing him turn out in the white of Spurs once more.

Janssen was greeted with a roaring cheer from the crowd and he might have taken the roof off with a goal.

While that was not to be, he played his part as Spurs continued to pile on the pressure before Christian Eriksen rocketed in a thunderbolt in the 88th minute to boost their hopes of finishing in the top four.

Before Eriksen’s winner, the hosts had been frustrated by Chris Hughton’s resolute relegation-battlers and the Dane said he was relieved to finally find the back of the net.

“I had a few warm-up shots before the goal! I hit it well and saw it fly in,” he said.

“It is a very, very good feeling, a tough game, alot chances, they sat deep, it is difficult to play against 10 or 11 in the box.

“It is very important to stay where we are, we needed to do something special.

“The results elsewhere recently made us feel like we had to capitalise, we have to keep the pressure on.

“We saw the other results so we knew what was at stake. To stay in our place we had to win, there was no other option.”

Boss Pochettino echoed his match-winners words and praised Brighton for holding them off for so long.

“It was a difficult game, we knew how difficult it would be, how tough it is to break down the opposition,” he said.

“Brighton were a really brave opponent. The most important thing is we believed, we didn’t give up and we tried different ways to score.

“It is three very important points and to be in a good position in the table.”
