If you have been waiting to try out a new puzzle game on your Nintendo Switch for free, we have good news.

The BOXBOY! + BOXGIRL! series is coming to the handheld console this week, but before it arrives, fans can enjoy a free demo.

Available now from the Nintendo Switch eShop, the new trial gives fans a taste of what is being released on Friday, April 26.

The new demo is free to download for anyone with a Switch console, with no online subscription required.

The good news is that the demo will take up very little room, while the full BOXBOY! + BOXGIRL! download will be less than 1GB.

Developers HAL Laboratory has confirmed that players will be able to try several stages and game modes, including the co-op mode in the new demo.

Here’s more information about the new multiplayer puzzler coming to the Nintendo Switch eShop this week:

“Think outside the box to save a world in peril! As Qbby or Qucy, you’ll create boxes and use them to surmount more than 270 puzzling stages—the most in the series to date!

“The box planet is plagued with obstacles, so jump, climb, drift, ride, and warp your way past them in three modes, complete with their own stories, stages, challenges, and techniques. You can even team up for a 2-player adventure starring both star-crossed boxes.

“A Tale for Two is a new mode in which—for the first time in the series—two players can work together to solve puzzles… Or one brave player can alternate between Qbby and Qucy!

“On top of that, there’s a third adventure starring Qudy, the tall one, and thanks to his extra-tall boxes, you’ll even have to think outside the rectangle!

“As you beat stages, you’ll uncover more, and if you’re efficient, earn medals you can use to score everything from boxy accessories to simple comics to helpful items at the in-game shop. Got your eye on a sweet sailor costume?

“Then try Balloon Challenge: if you get all ten balloons before the time runs out, you’ll score extra medals!”

And if you do have an active Nintendo Switch Online subscriptions, there are a few other freebies available to download today.

Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels, Punch-Out!! Featuring Mr. Dream and Star Soldier are the newest NES games that can be added to your digital collection.

The Lost Levels is probably the game that many in the UK will not recognise as it was originally released in Japan as Super Mario Bros. 2.

In addition to the classic enemies already known to fans worldwide, there are also Poison Mushrooms, backward Warp Zones and the occasional wind gust, which can help or hinder your progress.

Nintendo says that all of these NES games have been enhanced with online features and have been available to download since April 10, 2019.

It should also be noted that Nintendo Switch Online members also have access to the free-to-download software Tetris 99 as a special offer.
