Galaxy Fold update – Samsung announces major release news and fans aren't going to like it

The Galaxy Fold is one of the most revolutionary phones the world has ever seen.

This radical new device was first unveiled back in February with Samsung boasting how its new gadget could instantly switch from a smartphone into a fully functional tablet.

The most impressive thing about the Fold was the fact this was not merely a concept but a foldable phone that Samsung was actually going to sell.

In fact, Samsung was so confident about this device that it was supposed to hit US stores later this week.

Sadly, it seems fans of this phone are in for a much longer wait with the Korean technology firm just announcing it’s delaying the launch indefinitely.

The reason behind the change in this release schedule is mainly due to some technology journalists – who were reviewing the devices ahead of launch – reporting issues with the folding display within hours of taking it out of the box.

Some had mistakenly taken off a protective element on the screen which appeared to look like just like a screen protector that most people rip off when they use their phones for the first time.

However, others who hadn’t tampered with the screen still found the display was going badly wrong soon after they starting using it.

Reporters from The Verge, Android Central, Bloomberg, CNBC and more have all insisted they have encountered similar issues with the phone’s panel that have suffered from broken displays.

With so many concerns about the Fold, Samsung has now said it is delaying the global launch of this phone.

In a statement on its website Samsung said: “We recently unveiled a completely new mobile category: a smartphone using multiple new technologies and materials to create a display that is flexible enough to fold.

“We are encouraged by the excitement around the Galaxy Fold.

“While many reviewers shared with us the vast potential they see, some also showed us how the device needs further improvements that could ensure the best possible user experience.

“To fully evaluate this feedback and run further internal tests, we have decided to delay the release of the Galaxy Fold. We plan to announce the release date in the coming weeks.

“Initial findings from the inspection of reported issues on the display showed that they could be associated with impact on the top and bottom exposed areas of the hinge. There was also an instance where substances found inside the device affected the display performance.

“We will take measures to strengthen the display protection. We will also enhance the guidance on care and use of the display including the protective layer so that our customers get the most out of their Galaxy Fold.

“We value the trust our customers place in us and they are always our top priority. Samsung is committed to working closely with customers and partners to move the industry forward. We want to thank them for their patience and understanding.”
