PS4 News: Shock Xbox rumours could be bad news for PlayStation

Rumours are rife this week regarding the future of Sony’s PS4 and the new PlayStation 5 console to replace it.

Not only could there be new secret game projects in the works for the PS4 but there are also shock rumours regarding Microsoft’s next Xbox console.

According to new reports, PlayStation gamers might see a new Ratchet and Clank project arrive on the PS4.

Even though recent news indicates that the PS5 could be released in 2020, it appears there will be more of a crossover between the two consoles.

Recent comments made by Sony execs suggest that the PS4 will not be abandoned quite so quickly as past consoles that have been replaced by a new model.

A recent Wired interview with Mark Cerny revealed a lot about the PS5 specs and a little about the gaming plans, including: “the next-gen console will still accept physical media; it won’t be a download-only machine.

“Because it’s based in part on the PS4’s architecture, it will also be backwards-compatible with games for that console.

“As in many other generational transitions, this will be a gentle one, with numerous new games being released for both PS4 and the next-gen console.

“Where exactly Hideo Kojima’s forthcoming title Death Stranding fits in that process is still unconfirmed.

“When asked, a spokesperson in the room repeated that the game would be released for PS4, but Cerny’s smile and pregnant pause invites speculation that it will in fact be a two-platform release.”

It sounds like there’s going to be plenty of new titles being released on the PS4 and PS5, whenever it does arrive.

And one of those could be a new Ratchet and Clank game if recent rumours are to be believed.

Colin Moriarty, a former editor at IGN, believes that something new for the series is being worked on.

And while not giving much away, Moriarty dropped a big tease during Episode 59 of KnockBack, adding: “You haven’t seen the last of Ratchet & Clank on PS4.”

The idea that a new Ratchet and Clank project is in the works isn’t that hard to believe, following the success of the 2016 remake.

It achieved a solid average score of 8.6 among Metacritic users, setting a high mark to follow. A new Ratchet and Clank game could be shared across consoles and may help to sell the PS5 against a mean-sounding Xbox Two.

Since the new PS5 project was revealed with an impressive specs sheet, others have started hyping the next Xbox console.

Journalist Ainsley Bowden highlighted that media sources have been discussing the recent reveals, with some claiming to know that the next Xbox will be more powerful than the PS5.

“The PS5 hardware details (so far) were exactly what we were hoping for; even beyond what many were expecting,” Bowden posted on Twitter.

“Multiple insiders have now confirmed it’s true Xbox “Anaconda” will be more advanced as rumoured. All this means is next year is going to be AMAZING for fans of both.”

Adding: “Not my sources. Rather, known sources for MS/Xbox info that are very reliable and have been accurate for years on leaks.

“Keep in mind, it shouldn’t be surprising. It was already announced last year by MS directly that they would have the most powerful hardware again next-gen.”

While we don’t know when we will hear more from Sony on the subject, it seems very likely that Microsoft will talk about their new lineup of consoles during E3 2019.

They are expected to announce two, one high-powered model and another that has the same access to games but with a lower specs sheet.
