BLOW to Trump as popularity PLUMMETS to lowest level of the year after Mueller report

The US president’s favourability dropped to just 37 percent – his lowest percentage of the year according to the analysis by Reuters/IPSOS. Just under 1,000 people were surveyed which included 352 Democrats, 344 Republicans and 210 Independents. The new figures represent a three-point percentage slip since April 15 and a six-point drop since the end of March, according to Newsweek.

Unsurprisingly, Trump’s reputation mostly suffered with Democrats.

However, polls are not always conclusive which was demonstrated in the lead up to the 2016 election.

But the new data has offered an insight into how the Trump administration is coping with the controversy surrounding Thursday’s release of Mr Mueller’s redacted report.

The report detailed a two-year investigation into Russian election meddling and allegations that Trump obstructed justice.

The special counsel’s office did not reach a conclusion on the obstruction of justice allegations.

Mr Mueller wrote in the report: “If we had confidence after a thorough investigation of the facts that the President clearly did not commit obstruction of justice, we would so state.

“Based on the facts and the applicable legal standards, however, we are unable to reach that judgment.”

The report also identified 10 possible incidences where Trump could have obstructed justice including the attempt to fire Mr Mueller in 2017.

Mr Mueller stated there had been “multiple acts by the President that were capable of exerting undue influence over law enforcement investigations.”

About 50 percent of survey respondents said they “strongly agreed” or “somewhat agreed” that members of the Republican Party and the White House worked to delegitimise the FBI and Department of Justice during Mr Mueller’s investigation.

A further 70 percent said the report did not change their minds about the Trump administration.

However, 68 percent who said it did indicated they were now “more likely to believe that President Trump or someone close to him broke the law.”

The results are a leap from March’s 49 percent of respondents who answered similarly.

Trump tweeted in response to the report this week: “Despite the fact that the Mueller Report should not have been authorised in the first place and was written as nastily as possible by 13 (18) angry Democrats who were true Trump haters, including highly conflicted Bob Mueller himself, the end result is no collusion, no obstruction!”
