Jane McDonald, 55, has been in a relationship with Eddie Rothe, 65, for over a decade, after the pair rekindled their romance in 2009. The pair had previously met as teenagers in the 80s but grew apart, before they reconnected and later got engaged. Speaking in a candid interview with Loose Women, the singer revealed her beau tends to like when she is away working because ultimately he gets to do what he likes. When asked if working at a distance helps their relationship, Jane divulged: “It does us. I think he quite likes the fact that I’m not there.
“I think he likes the fact he can eat what he wants, watch telly when he wants, get up when he wants.”
But the former Loose Women panellist admitted that despite spending some time apart, when she gets back home they get back to “courting” each other.
Jane said: “I think he then likes it when I come back. It’s a bit like a courtship. It’s like ooh she’s back, girlfriend’s here.
“And then I go away again and everything is wonderful.”
The Cruising with Jane McDonald star recently spilled on her partner not travelling with her for work, but insisted he must enjoy it as he gets to control what is on the television back home.
Speaking to The Sunday Post, she said: “Ed doesn’t come with me because this is my work – if I worked at a checkout I wouldn’t expect him to stand next to me, and he’s happy for me to go off and do these things.
“I think he likes having control of the remote and being able to eat whatever he wants!”
She added: “I do make special time for Ed, though. I think you have to do that when you are away as much as I am.”
The Channel 5 series which first aired in 2017, sees Jane spending her time on cruise ships as she takes to the high seas for months on end.
“I spend six months of the year on cruises,” she revealed.
“Travelling the world with your mates, it’s such good fun and I hope that comes across.”
Jane and Eddie first met as teenagers, and got together six years after her split from ex-husband Henrik Brixen.
She told the Mirror, “I was bereft after my second marriage broke up. I didn’t date anyone seriously for seven years and could hardly expect anything with my track record. But this guy takes my breath away.
“I’m very lucky. Normally when you meet someone after a long time they look nothing like you remember, or they are married.
“My life has been a lot of being in the right place at the right time, so being back with Eddie has something of destiny about it. We both realise we are lucky to have found each other again.”
The singer and presenter has enjoyed a whirlwind career as she has gone on a UK tour and abroad with her songs, and has even won herself a BAFTA nomination with her hit TV series, Cruising with Jane McDonald.
