Sophie Turner: Game of Thrones star speaks out on 'destructive' relationship with co-star

The actress, 23, joined Dr Phil, 68, on his Phil in the Blanks podcast where she spoke out about growing close to Maisie Williams, 22, after joining the Game of Thrones cast when it first aired in 2009. Speaking out about the pressures of growing up in the public eye, Sophie Turner, who plays Sansa Stark in the hit HBO fantasy drama, told the host: “I have a friend, Maisie, who was on the show with me. She’s just a year younger than me and she and I were growing up together.

“She was my best friend and she was the only one I really told about all of it,” she continued.

“Maisie and I used do it [stay inside] together. I think being friends with each other was quite destructive because we were going through the same thing.

“We used to get home from set, go to a Tesco across the road, a little supermarket, and just buy food,” the Game of Thrones favourite recalled.

“We’d go back to our room and eat it in bed.

“We never socialised for a couple of years,” Sophie admitted. “We didn’t socialise with anyone but ourselves.”

The actress also opened up about taking a break from acting in order to concentrate on her mental health after wrapping on Game of Thrones season eight last year.

“I actually am still on my break,” she said. “I took a break off work to focus on my mental health because I thought it was important.”

She and Maisie formed a close bond during the decade of filming Game of Thrones, and the Arya Stark star is even set to be Sophie’s maid of honour.

The blonde beauty is marrying her Jonas Brothers star fiancé Joe Jonas, 29, later this year.

She confirmed the news of Maisie’s major role in her big day to ET earlier this month, saying the actress will be one of two maids of honour.

After Maisie told the publication she was trying to figure out her outfit for the wedding, Sophie added: “I don’t know why she’s thinking about [that], I’m giving her the bridesmaid dress!”

Sophie and Joe started dating in 2017 and confirmed their engagement the following year.

She previously told Harper’s Bazaar how they met, saying mutual friends had been trying to introduce them for a long time.

“We were following each other on Instagram and he direct-messaged me one fine day, out of the blue,” she said.

Gushing about her beau, she continued: “He’s the most fun, energetic, positive person I’ve ever seen.

“I’m pessimistic, so we balance each other out.”

Game of Thrones season 8 airs on HBO in the US on Sundays 9pm ET and on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in the UK on Mondays at 2am & 9pm BST.
