Nintendo DOWN: Server Status news as maintenance error hits eShop and Super Smash update

Nintendo eShop users have been affected by an outage tonight on the Switch version of the eShop platform.

Servers are currently down, meaning fans are not able to access core online services and more importantly, can’t download patches.

This includes downloading the latest update for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which went live earlier this evening.

One user writes: “For everyone wondering, the servers crashed and should be up in a bit. I assume it’s because of the flooding of the smash update.”

Another adds: “They should’ve been prepared for this! Now I not only can download Smash, but my Cuphead pre-download can’t even finish when it’s at 98%. 98%.”

The new issues with the Nintendo eShop do coincide with the release of the Smash update, making it possible that a lot of users trying to download the file at the same time has crashed the network.

So the good news is that players suffering maintenance errors tonight hopefully won’t have to wait long for a fix, due to this not being a fully-fledged DDoS attack.

The latest information from Nintendo confirms that they have engineers working on tonight’s outage.

“We are aware that players are experiencing errors accessing Nintendo eShop and are working to address the problem,” Nintendo confirms.

“Thank you for your understanding, and we hope to share an update when available.”

The bad news is that we don’t have an exact ETA on when Nintendo will fix tonight’s problems.
