Bradley Walsh: The Chase fans fear he's dead after Edinburgh shooting sparks confusion

The death of Bradley Welsh, 42, who appeared in T2 Trainspotting, is “being treated as suspicious” after he was shot dead in Edinburgh last night. A statement from the police obtained by the BBC read: “Police in Edinburgh received a report of a disturbance in Chester Street at around 8pm on Wednesday 17th April. “On arrival of emergency services a man was found seriously injured and sadly passed away at the scene. His death is being treated as suspicious and inquiries are continuing.”

Following the news of Bradley’s death, many fans of Bradley Walsh, 58, flocked to social media believing it was the presenter who had died.

One Twitter user commented: “Gutted to hear #bradleywalsh has been shot in @ITVChase… very upset, cannot believe it.”

A third wrote: “Bradley Walsh shot dead in Scotland according to the news on radio today!?”

A fourth penned: “Missus has just woken me up to tell me Bradley Walsh has been shot. Ffs.”(sic)

Another shared his thoughts on those who misread the name trending, writing: “If it wasn’t so tragic it would be funny… Tributes pouring in for Bradley Walsh… Come on folks pay attention.”

Bradley Welsh starred in Danny Boyle’s 2017 film T2 Trainspotting, a sequel to the 1996 classic.

He also appeared on Danny Dyer’s Deadliest Men in 2008.

Aside from acting, the former boxer also ran boxing gyms and organised charity events in Edinburgh.

Back in 2017, Bradley spoke out about his changed life following his criminal past.

He told The Sun: “A long time ago I had a criminal past as a young football hooligan.

“I then went to prison for extortion and firearms and all that stuff.

“But for the last 20 years I’ve run boxing gyms and organised big charity events in Edinburgh.

“I just did a foodbank appeal which raised 22 tons of food. I’m not after a gold medal, but that’s what I’ve been doing. So hopefully T2 will get rid of this tag.”

Following the news of his death, many of his showbiz friends and fans flocked to social media to pay a tribute.

Novelist Irvine Welsh wrote on Twitter: “Bradley John Welsh, my heart is broken. Goodbye my amazing and beautiful friend.

“Thanks for making me a better person and helping me to see the world in a kinder and wiser way.”

Leigh Mac, a friend of the actor, also commented: “You to me are treasure, you to me are dear.

“Our coach, our motivator but most importantly our friend, Brad Welsh.”
