Team News

19:05: The headline news is that Dele Alli has been passed fit to start for Tottenham at the Etihad Stadium.

The England international had been a doubt due to a broken hand but was cleared to play wearing a protective cast.

There are two other changes from the first leg with Lucas Moura and Victor Wanyama replacing the injured Harry Kane and Harry Winks respectively.

Quadruple-chasing City bring back Bernardo Silva for Leroy Sane in the only change to the side that won at Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Fernandinho overcame a knock to take up a place on the bench. Ilkay Gundogan keeps his place ahead of the more defensively-minded midfielder.

Porto vs Liverpool – coverage here!

19:00: Hilarious team news in tonight’s other clash as Divock Origi is named in Liverpool’s side to face Porto in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final.

The 23-year-old Belgian, a substitute in the first leg which Liverpool won 2-0, got the nod up front ahead of Roberto Firmino who dropped to the bench as one of three changes made by Jurgen Klopp.

There were also starts for James Milner and Georginio Wijnaldum as Naby Keita and Jordan Henderson took their places amongst the substitutes.

Porto XI: Casillas, Militao, Felipe, Pepe, Alex Telles, Corona, Danilo, Herrera, Brahimi, Otavio, Marega.

Liverpool XI: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Robertson, Fabinho, Wijnaldum, Milner, Mane, Salah, Origi.

Twitter round-up

Mark: So Pep Guardiola can afford to rest Fernandinho in a must win game?! Crazy!

Tom: Who did you think City were going to start?! Nothing to be surprised or intimidated about. COME ON YOU SPURS!

Micky: Fingers toes everything crossed praying for tonight that we can put in a good shift and get vs result to put us through.

I suspect the Pep plan is to score twice and send Fernandinho into the action, Mark.

The line-ups

18:55: And here they arrive! Pep Guardiola, as expected, isn’t messing around. Very attacking XI indeed.

Manchester City XI: Ederson, Walker, Kompany, Laporte, Mendy, Gundogan, Silva, De Bruyne, Bernardo, Sterling, Aguero.

Subs: Muric, Stones, Sane, Fernandinho, Mahrez, Otamendi, Jesus.

Manchester City XI: Ederson, Walker, Kompany, Laporte, Mendy, Gundogan, Silva, De Bruyne, Bernardo, Sterling, Aguero.

No Harry…

18:50: As you’ll be well aware – Spurs are without their talisman Harry Kane, who was forced off with an ankle injury in the first leg.

Not an enormous problem on Saturday, granted.

But they need someone to fill that void. When Kane was out earlier in the season, Son Heung-min stepped up and it was also the Korean who grabbed the winner last week.

Lucas Moura then shone at the weekend, netting a hat-trick against Huddersfield, and he will hope for another chance.

Tottenham’s approach

18:48: Mauricio Pochettino’s men hold the upper hand after successfully cancelling out City last week.

Playing a high-energy, high-pressing game, Spurs gave City some of their own medicine. Whether they can repeat the trick against a City side set out to attack more is debatable, however.

Spurs may be forced to play a more containing game. They will want their midfielders to come to the fore and try to dictate affairs.

Elsewhere tonight…

18:45: There IS another Champions League clash going on tonight – although I would say the writing is very much on the wall.

Liverpool travel to Porto with a two-goal advantage – meaning a draw or even a one-goal defeat would be enough to see them through to a semi-final showdown with Barcelona.

Can City turn it around?

18:40: That’s the multi-multi-multi-million pound question…

To keep their quadruple hopes alive City will need to change their approach from the conservative system they adopted in the first leg.

Then Pep Guardiola left out Kevin De Bruyne and deployed two holding midfielders in what seemed a damage limitation exercise.

Something more like the normal attack-minded formation that serves so well in the Premier League will be expected, and probably required, to ensure City get on the front foot this time.

Evening…

18:35: Hello everyone and welcome to our LIVE coverage of the Champions League.

We’ve got two semi-finalists – and we’ll complete the line-up tonight as Tottenham travel to the Etihad Stadium with a 1-0 aggregate advantage.

But something tells me Pep Guardiola and his Manchester City side won’t go down without a fight to keep their quadruple hopes alive.

As Wednesday nights go, this one looks pretty special…

MANCHESTER CITY vs TOTTENHAM | TEAM NEWS

Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho is hoping to prove his fitness ahead of the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final against Tottenham.

The Brazilian missed Sunday’s victory at Crystal Palace with a muscular problem but has since been training at “low intensity”, according to manager Pep Guardiola.

Left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko (hamstring) is unlikely to feature in the game at the Etihad Stadium but forwards Sergio Aguero and Raheem Sterling are fit despite minor concerns.

Dele Alli has been included in Tottenham’s squad despite having a cast on his broken hand.

The England midfielder will try and play through the pain of the injury he suffered in last week’s first leg, while Erik Lamela has also recovered from a hamstring problem.

National team-mate Harry Winks is out, though, with a groin injury and is joined on the sidelines by Eric Dier (hip), Harry Kane (ankle) and Serge Aurier (hamstring).
