Kym Marsh: Coronation Street’s Michelle Connor addresses awards show decision ‘It’s right’

The luxury hotel, owned by the Brunei Investment Agency, is one of nine that is being boycotted by some following the decision.

“The 2019 TV Choice Awards will not be held at The Dorchester Hotel. This year’s venue will be announced in due course,” a post on Twitter from TV Choice read.

Kym has since commented: “Well done to the organisers of the TV Choice Awards, who announced the awards aren’t going to be held at London’s Dorchester Hotel.

“The hotel is owned by the Brunei Investment Agency and it’s being boycotted after controversial news laws introduced in Brunei mean that gay people could now legally be stoned to death.”

She continued: “It’s absolutely barbaric and it’s right that the hotels are boycotted! I, for one, won’t be setting foot in any of the hotels.”

Brunei has defended its anti-gay and anti-adultery laws in a letter to the European Parliament.

The small screen favourite also used her latest piece to congratulate one of her Corrie co-stars.

Kym wrote: “The long list of this year’s British Soap Awards has been announced and a few of my workmates are up for an award, including Alison King (Carla Connor).

“I’d be happy if any of the Corrie cast won but I’d really love to see Ali take home an award!”

She stated: “Her current storyline, which has seen Carla at rock bottom and suffering from psychosis following the Underworld roof collapse, is hard going and she’s done an amazing job and has put everything into it.”

The star then added: “I know how hard she’s worked on it, so I’m rooting for her!”

Alison, 46, who has been in Coronation Street since 2006, is up against stiff competition with the list set to be whittled down.

Also included in the category is her colleagues Sally Ann Matthews (Jenny Connor) and Bhavna Limbachia (Rana Habeeb).

Corrie’s Lucy Fallon collected the Best Actress gong in 2018 while the show once again was crowned best soap.

Jack P. Shepherd, Connor McIntyre and Kieran Roberts were also triumphant.
