Susanna Reid: ‘I was concerned’ GMB host speaks out on ‘troublesome’ health woes

The Good Morning Britain presenter, 49, spoke out about her skin “flare ups” and admitted she knew it was what she was putting in her body was the main cause of her health worries. Writing in the Sunday Times’ Style magazine, Susanna Reid told readers she was advised to “drop the weight” if she wanted to see a difference in her skin. The ITV favourite spilled: “I was concerned because my skin was flushed. “I kept getting flare-ups and blemishes, and they were leaving red scars. I’d tried all manner of creams and washes, but I knew deep down that what was happening to my skin was probably a manifestation of was I was putting into my body.”

The presenter talked about visiting a consultant to get a mole removed where she spoke about her skin issues and revealed she was told to “cut-back” on consuming alcohol.

Susanna divulged: “Separately, I went to see a consultant to get a troublesome mole removed. I mentioned my other skin concerns.

“He told me that dilated blood vessels are not helped by alcohol and that cutting back would help.”

“He also told me that I could help my skin by dropping some weight,” she continued.

“Fat generates heat in the body, which also affects the blood vessels. He put me on the scales and told me I was at the heavier end of my BMI and losing 10lb might help.”

However, despite ditching the alcohol last summer, the ITV host has since made a startling “confession” that she has not entirely given up alcohol.

“Since August 26, which is the day I decided to put an end to my relationship with alcohol, I haven’t been entirely dry. Confession: it’s a bit like the end of a relationship when you’re not quite ready to say it’s really over,” Susanna admitted.

The Good Morning Britain star said there have been occasions where she has “fallen back into it”.

Admittedly, the first time was with her co-host Piers Morgan, 54, after the pair presented the show in the Beverly Hills Hotel following the Oscars earlier this year.

“Leonardo DiCaprio was in disguise in the corner and it felt wrong not to mark the occasion,” she said.

“If I wasn’t going to have a drink in LA after the world’s most glamorous night a the movies, when would I?”

Another occasion, was when a friend of hers talked her into some Prosecco when she arrived on her doorstep with a bottle, and a third, Susanna said, was when she indulged in champagne at a Michelin-starred restaurant in Rome.

But leading a cleaner lifestyle has certainly helped the TV star as she admitted to have lost one-and-a-half stone since cutting out alcohol and snacks from her diet.

Meanwhile, the presenter recently took to her Instagram account to tell her fans to read her latest column in the Sunday Times style magazine.

In view of her 362,000 followers, she wrote: “TODAY! Feeling ‘Sober Curious’? Read My (almost) Sober Diaries in @theststyle mag with The Sunday Times.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6.30am on ITV.
