PSN Name Change: How to change your PSN Name and what issues to watch out for

Changing your PSN Name on PS4 and PS4 Pro is now a fully-fledged, Sony supported feature.

It’s taken a long time to become available to fans and comes with a list of possible issues that fans need to be ready for.

But if you want to try out a free PlayStation Network ID change, now is the time to do it.

The system to do so is pretty straight forward but it should be noted that PSN Name Changes are not supported on older consoles.

HOW TO CHANGE YOUR PSN NAME ON PS4

As of right now, The PSN Name change system only works on PS4 and Web Browser and only supports games for the PS4.

It can be done by following a few easy steps on both platforms.

• Step 1: From your PS4 go to [Settings].

• Step 2: Select [Account Management] > [Account Information] > [Profile] > [Online ID].

• Step 3: Enter an Online ID of your choice or choose from one of the suggestions.

• Step 4: Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the change.

WEB BROWSER NAME CHANGE

• Step 1: Sign in to your account on the PlayStation Network and select PSN Profile in the menu.

• Step 2: Select the Edit button that’s next to your Online ID.

• Step 3: Enter an Online ID of your choice or choose from one of the suggestions.

• Step 4: Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the change.

The good news is that the first time users change their PS4 name it will be free – but after that PlayStation fans will be charged.

The second name change will cost £7.99, or £3.99 if you have an active PS Plus account.

There are also some issues that can crop when using this new system that Sony has confirmed.

The PSN name change feature will only be supported on games originally published after April 1 2018.

Sony has provided a list of two sets of games have known issues with the Name Change system.

Games which have been tested and were found to have one or more of the following known issues fall into the issues identified list.

These problems are not considered critical to the gameplay experience and include thing like:

“Previous online ID(s) may remain visible to you and other players, or the online ID is no longer visible in some areas in a game title (in-game rankings, leaderboards, etc.).

“For some game titles, the online ID will automatically update if you sign out and then sign back into the game or when various gameplay activity is performed after sign-in;

“User accounts on PlayStation may be unlinked from game accounts. Linking accounts again may restore the original linkage; and

“Certain game settings may be initialised to their default state (audio setting, controller setting, etc.).

“For some game titles, settings may be recovered if you sign out and then sign back into the game.”

The second list includes the Critical Issue PS4 games that could lose in-game currency, Loss of game progress, or suffer other online and offline issues.

You can find the two list of confirmed games on the official PlayStation Site.
