Jasmine Harman: ‘It's tricky’ A Place In The Sun presenter speaks out on refusing to film

A Place In The Sun presenter Jasmine Harman, 43, said she has refused to film particular scenes due to being a vegan. Reflecting on a time in Portugal, the star said she was scheduled to film at a restaurant who had a “speciality called succulent pig”. She exclusively told Express.co.uk: “I had just given birth and had just gone back to work with my newborn son and I was breast feeding. I said to the director, ‘Are you actually asking me to promote a place that kills babies when they’re still breastfeeding from their mothers and eats them when I’ve got a baby myself?’

“I was like, ‘Are you absolutely insane? There is no way that I am going to do that’.”

Jasmine, who has always been a vegetarian but turned vegan 13 years ago, added: “Since I’ve gone vegan I feel like I don’t have to promote anything that I don’t agree with.”

Before turning vegan, the small screen favourite said she had filmed a scene which involved milking a cow.

She added: “At the time I was vegetarian, I didn’t even realise that there was any problem with the dairy industry.

“I was ignorant. I didn’t have a moral objection and [the] moral awareness to know.”

Jasmine went on to say filming can be “tricky” when she isn’t keen on the destination, but insisted producers have always managed to find an alternative.

She continued: “Sometimes it’s tricky because if that’s sort of our only place in the area or the only highlight, it makes it difficult.

“But we’ve always managed to work around it and find something else to talk about which I feel comfortable with.”

Jasmine has been a presenter on the Channel 4 property show for 15 years.

Throughout her time on the show, Jasmine admitted she has had some awkward on-screen moments.

Reflecting on one embarrassing scene, she said she was showing a couple around a property in Italy, but made an unintentional innuendo.

She said: “The lady wanted to buy in Italy and her husband wanted to buy in the UK.

“He hadn’t liked any of the properties I had shown them in Italy but with one of them we went into it and he was like, ‘Actually this is quite nice, I like this,’ and I said, ‘Oh that’s exciting, well let’s go to the bedroom then and see if we can persuade him.’”

Elaborating on her reaction, she said laughing: “I literally walked off and was like [gasps], what have I just said?

“That came out completely wrong and I just cracked up. They actually kept it in the programme, it was so embarrassing.”

A Place In The Sun airs weekdays on Channel 4 at 3pm.
