Gemma Atkinson: ‘I don’t want pressure’ Gorka's girlfriend speaks on 'ups and downs'

Gemma Atkinson, 34, is expecting her first child with Strictly Come Dancing boyfriend Gorka Marquez, 28, and has since been taking a break from her regular workout sessions, following her pregnancy announcement. The former Emmerdale actress has now taken to Instagram to share a video of herself training pre-pregnancy and told her 983,000 followers she is not putting a time limit on when she’ll be heading back to the gym after giving birth. She wrote: “I’ve been thinking a lot about my training post baby recently, and mentally forming a plan as to what I want to do. “Loads of you have asked me about it so I’ve decided to do another journey with Evil Steve at UP again.

“Last time I loved it not only physically but mentally too.”

She continued: “It made me feel great, and I want to have as much energy and be the best mum possible for my new baby meaning, I need to mentally feel good.

“I’m not putting a time scale on how soon after birth I start. I don’t want that pressure, and who knows what will happen. I need the all clear from the doctor first.”

“Physically I may have to wait a while and mentally I probably won’t want to leave my baby (although that’s something I have to get over because that’s life!),” Gemma explained.

“What I have decided though is, when I’m ready, I’m going to do two sessions a week with Evil Steve in the gym. Alongside that I’ll attempt 3 home sessions using meals from my book (link in bio) and my online program.

“These home sessions will be depending on how I feel and most importantly how my baby is doing. I’m excited to get stuck back in again!”

Speaking about the training video with her fitness instructor, who she aptly named Evil Steve, the Hits Radio DJ asked her fans if they would like to see her documenting her fitness journey following the birth of her baby.

Gemma said: “The video above is snippets from my last transformation. Would you like me to blog again during my post baby training???

“It won’t be a ‘so many week transformation’ it’ll take me however long and that’s it.”

She continued: “As per my last blogs I want them to be an honest account, the ups and downs and my realistic, healthy approach to shifting my baby weight (though if I could keep the weight I’ve gained on my a** that’d be ace, thank you universe).

“Let me know below if you’d like to see it on here! @upfitnesslive @zusun83 Hope you guys are ready for me again.”

Fans quickly bombarded the star with comments, with many looking forward to the fitness guru getting back in the gym as many branded the blonde beauty an “inspiration”.

One person said: “Love seeing your updates, honest, real and inspirational.”

Another person commented: “Wow you are amazing. Life goals. I can’t wait to get back to training. Lose some weight and hopefully look half as good as you…”

While a third person added: “I think this is a fantastic idea. It would give a realistic time lapse for girls that have had babies but don’t want to rush into leaving baby to train.”

Meanwhile, the former Hollyoaks recently admitted she misses training alongside her fitness trainer.

In an Instagram snap, the star said: “Weirdly, I’m excited to feel this much pain training again with Evil Steve. I’ve missed it.”
