Game of Thrones season eight, episode one saw Arya Stark (played by Maisie Williams) make plans for a new, deadly weapon that she will need to survive the HBO final series.
She reunites with Gendry (Joe Dempsie) in the first episode and asks him to make a very specific and menacing-looking weapon.
What could she need a new weapon for? It would suggest she will be facing a very specific and terrifying threat.
Fans are treated to a glimpse of the vision she has for the weapon in a diagram she has created, which shows a detachable spear attached to a sword.
The detachable spear element would enable her to combat the threat from a distance or from a height.
Her weapon would have to be made from dragonglass to kill the White Walkers and would pose a double threat for Arya in the final season.
The double threat is something Arya has used before in combat before when she has switched between the Needle her sibling Jon Snow (Kit Harington) gave her and a dagger.
White Walkers pose a different threat to any mortal being she has faced and overcome and will require great skill and weaponry to defeat them.
If not, she could end up as the first victim of what could be a bloody final season.
She will probably come up against the deadly Night King who has struck fear into those who he has crossed throughout the series.
Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) had her dragon Viserion killed at the hand of the Night King, while Jon Snow was left quaking in his boots at the sight of hundreds of fallen soldiers rising under his command.
Season eight’s very first episode saw the damage the Night King can do once again.
Lord Umber (Harry Grasby) was left strewn onto the wall of his house in Last Hearth after he had been killed, dismembered, and rearranged into the White Walkers’ signature pattern.
White Walkers are basically dead people the Night King has resurrected and turned into soldiers for his army of the dead.
Game of Thrones features White Walkers prominently throughout, although their existence wasn’t confirmed to the residents of Westeros for thousands of years prior to when the series is set.
Meanwhile, in the first episode the former Faceless Men trainee was reunited with her half-brother Jon Snow, as well as the Hound (Rory McCann).
Her reunion with Jon was emotional, with the two bonding over their love of their sister Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner).
The Gendry actor has hinted that his character was brought back to help instigate shocking scenes, which may include Arya killing the Night King.
Speaking at the Radio Times and BFI Festival, Joe explained: “Everyone has this attachment to their characters and we’re getting drip fed information at the same rate viewers are but just a little bit earlier than you are because we get the scripts.
“But in terms of certain really key pieces of information about where your character came from and what made him the person he is today, they are being really drip fed so you have all these questions you want answers to.”
Joe continued: “I mean, season seven for Gendry was clearly about getting him back into the story, just get him back in, get him involved, and start moving all these chess pieces in order so we can get started with season eight with a bang.”
