Parliament is in dire need of improvement with reports claiming the building is “crumbling”. Although politicians agree work needs to be carried out on the building, the process in which this is done has been debated for years. Labour MP Chris Bryant, who sat on a committee which reviewed the issue, said: “We have taken far too long already putting our fire safety measures in place.
“Parts of the Palace are as old as Notre Dame and we must make sure that every fire precaution is taken as the major work goes ahead.
“God knows we’ve had enough warnings.”
On Monday night, the iconic French cathedral was devastated by a fire which tore through much of the building.
Labour MP Anna Turley also spoke of her shock at the state of Parliament when she first went there in 2015.

She said: “On my induction my ‘buddy’ was an engineer.
“He showed me the electrics – it looked a health and safety disaster (and fire) waiting to happen.”
A restoration and renewal programme is not due to start until the mid-2020s.
MPs and peers approved motions to leave Parliament so the building could be restored.
Many MPs were also concerned about the price of the project, which is expected to cost billions to restore.
World leaders also shared their sadness at the demise of the cathedral.
US President Donald Trump said: “So horrible to watch the massive fire at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris.”
Theresa May, UK Prime Minister, added: “My thoughts are with the people of France tonight and with the emergency services who are fighting the terrible blaze at Notre-Dame cathedral.”
