Turtle Beach Recon 70 headset REVIEW: The best value gaming headphones ever?

Remember when I said that the Turtle Beach Stealth 300 headphones were fantastic value for Fortnite fans? Well that was before the Recon 70s came along!

Available for less than £30, Turtle Beach’s latest cans represent incredible value for money.

The Recon 70s feature the same high quality 40mm speakers found in the more expensive Stealth 200 headphones, so you’re not getting short changed on sound.

You don’t quite get the thundering lows Turtle Beach claim in the official literature, but the sound is loud and clear enough to avoid complaint.

You definitely lose something in games that have really powerful soundtracks like Nier Automata and God of War, and you won’t pick up all of the subtle sounds in something like Hellblade.

However, if you’re looking for a good headset to play FIFA, Fortnite and Call of Duty online with your friends, the Recon 70s are more than up to the task.

The Recon 70 headphones also look surprisingly sleek considering they cost so little.

The contrasting colour scheme paired with the synthetic leather-wrapped ear cushions means they look stylish and not at all cheap.

The ear cushions also sit nicely over the ear to block out most external sounds, although they’re not fully noise cancelling.

We particularly like the flip-to-mute mic, which despite not having the versatility of most adjustable models, is easier on the eye and doesn’t get in the way when you’re playing offline.

The lack of bells and whistles mean they’re also a lot lighter than some of the more expensive models, which ultimately makes them more comfortable.

And don’t let the PlayStation blue or Xbox green fool you, because the Recon 70s work with all consoles and PC, provided there’s a 3.5mm headphone jack.

If you’re buying as a gift or are a multiplatform holder, the colours are more of a branding thing, designed to aesthetically complement different consoles.

Just be aware that some of the older Xbox One controllers don’t have the 3.5mm jack, so check before you buy.

Perfect for younger gamers with less cash to spare, or maybe as a secondary set you can cart around, the Recon 70 headphones provide stellar sound quality at an incredible price.
