Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp reveals first question in team meeting before Chelsea win

Liverpool boss Klopp saw his Reds side put Chelsea to the sword at Anfield, with goals from Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah giving them a crucial three points.

It means that the Merseyside giants now sit atop of the Premier League table, two points clear of Manchester City albeit having played one game more.

City achieved a Premier League win over their own before the showdown at Anfield, with a Raheem Sterling brace and Gabriel Jesus strike enough to give them the victory.

And Klopp has now revealed that, prior to the Chelsea showdown, personnel were eager to know the score.

“The first question in the meeting today was ‘what is the City score?’” he said.

“You cannot avoid knowing about it. But it isn’t interesting to us.

“We expect them to win all their games so we just need to get as many points as possible and if we’re champions then great but if not it is still a really good football team.”

Klopp also admitted he was proud of his Liverpool side for getting the job done.

Back in 2014, the Reds played Chelsea knowing three points would all but secure them the Premier League crown.

But, on that occasion, they let the title slip.

Five years on, though, and Liverpool were able to avenge the demons of that afternoon.

And Klopp is happy they got the job done.

“I’m so proud of the team, it was a fantastic performance,” he said.

“What a team, what a stadium, what an atmosphere.

“I’m so thankful I can be a part of this, it’s great. It’s just outstanding, very overwhelming at times.

“Well done, really well done, now let’s prepare for Porto, Cardiff and whatever comes.”

Liverpool are next in action against Cardiff next weekend (4pm).
