Jamie Carragher picks who he’d rather Liverpool lose between Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane

Salah has scored 19 goals and provided seven assists in the Premier League so far this season.

Mane, meanwhile, is enjoying his best season in the English top flight, scoring 18 times and laying on one assist for his team-mates.

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville asked Carragher who he would rather be missing for the remaining games of the season as Liverpool hunt down their first Premier League title.

“If you had to lose one hypothetically, Salah or Mane, for the run in, who would it be?” Sky Sports pundit Neville asked.

And Jamie Carragher says Liverpool would be able to cope without Salah easier than Mane.

“Salah,” he responded.

“They’ve got the same amount of goals. I’m a massive fan of Mane.

“People talk about Jurgen Klopp and the signing of Salah, unbelievable, [Virgil] Van Dijk.

“Mane’s the one that got Liverpool back. He was Klopp’s first big signing, £30million.

“He was the signing that got Liverpool into the top four. The next season it was Champions League final, this season is challenging for the title.

“So he’s been the one who’s been there from the very start.

“If Liverpool or City win the league, a lot of it is going to be down to the wide players.

“And I think of the teams when we challenged [United] I think in 2009, we didn’t have that wide player.

“Go through history of teams that won the title – the wide players stand out massively.

“I would go as far as to say I think if we had Sadio Mane in that team in 2009, I think we would have won the league.

“That was the one thing that was really lacking and the difference between [United].”
