WhatsApp update – Here's a new feature you'll definitely want to switch on

WhatsApp released back in 2009 and during its decade of availability it has seen an explosion of users flock to it.

WhatsApp is easily the most popular third-party chatting app around and surpasses the likes of Facebook Messenger and WeChat in terms of monthly users.

The software has a laundry list of features that continues to get longer with new updates from the firm.

The newest of which adds the ability to ignore archived chats, according to WABetaInfo.

WABetaInfo is an outlet renowned for trawling through early versions of WhatsApp to garner a glimpse at forthcoming features.

The publication has said in the newest beta version for WhatsApp on Android a toggle called “ignore achieved chats” has been added that, as the name suggests, will keep achieved conversations hidden even if the user has new messages for it.

One of the biggest frustrations with WhatsApp at the moment is surely when an archived chat re-emerges at the top of client because the user has been sent new messages.

For those that want to ignore such threads, they are forced to repeatedly re-archive chats.

The new feature in WhatsApp beta 2.19.101 appears intent on remedying this issue.

WABetaInfo insisted the new feature will be available for users to turn on within WhatsApp’s settings.

Heading to Settings > Notifications was said to lead to the toggle for “ignore archived chats”.

While WABetaInfo declared the new function is available in the newest beta for WhatsApp on Android, no release date was provided for all users.

The ability to ignore unwanted chats could arrive shortly after WhatsApp announced it was providing users with the ability to choose who is able to add them to group chats.

Now, fans are able to choose whether “Nobody”, “My Contacts”, or “Everyone” can add them to threads containing multiple users.

Discussing the addition at the start of the month, WhatsApp said: “WhatsApp groups continue to connect family, friends, coworkers, classmates and more. As people turn to groups for important conversations, users have asked for more control over their experience.

“Today, we’re introducing a new privacy setting and invite system to help you decide who can add you to groups.

“To enable it, go to Settings in your app, then tap Account > Privacy > Groups and select one of three options: ‘Nobody’, ‘My Contacts’, or ‘Everyone’.

“‘Nobody’ means you’ll have to approve joining every group to which you’re invited, and ‘My Contacts’ means only users you have in your address book can add you to groups.”

The new privacy setting is currently rolling out to WhatsApp users.
