NBA trade news: LeBron James and Anthony Davis backed to join Celtics in SHOCK deal

That’s according to a report from Bleacher Report, which points to the previous suggestion that Lakers owner Jeanie Buss considered trading James at the deadline.

It has proved a disastrous season for the Lakers in a year in which hopes were high of a return to the postseason.

Ultimately, injuries and off-the-court drama took their toll on their season with a number of players ruled out for the remainder of the campaign.

But the drama continued this week when Magic Johnson shocked everyone by announcing he would step down as president of basketball operations.

He cited a number of reasons for his decision, but amazingly admitted he hadn’t even told Jeanie Buss first.

And the Lakers have since mutually agreed to part ways with Luke Walton, meaning the franchise face a busy next few weeks recruiting a new front office.

Pressure will be on the Lakers to get something done this summer, and it is expected they will try again for Anthony Davis.

Both James and Davis are represented by Rich Paul of Klutch Sports, leading to many suggesting the pair will link up this summer.

However, Bleacher Report have drawn up a scenario in which both players could end up playing for the Boston Celtics.

It is suggested the Lakers’ best path “toward rediscovering their glory years” could be by trading James.

And the report names the Celtics as the most likely team to test the water regarding a trade for James.

The potential trade would likely include the New Orleans Pelicans with Boston then aiming to try and get Kyrie Irving, Davis and James on their team.

The Pelicans would potentially receive Marcus Smart, Jayson Tatum, Robert Williams III and a number of picks while the Lakers would get Jaylen Brown, Al Horford and picks.

This monster trade package would certainly be a shock throughout the league, but Danny Ainge has proven in the past that he isn’t scared of making big deals.
