Hellboy post-credits scene explained: How many are there? What do they mean for a sequel?

Hellboy is the seminal work of artist Mike Mignola and has already been made into a film. But recently the character was re-adapted by Neil Marshall for a film starring Stranger Things’ David Harbour. The film has not performed well with critics, but there may still be a sequel.

How many post-credits are there in Hellboy?

Warning: Spoilers ahead for the new Hellboy movie.

Hellboy has two post-credit scenes, one in the middle of the credits.

The scene begins with Hellboy drinking in a graveyard at night by the grave of his recently-deceased adoptive father.

Then, the ghost of Lobster Johnson appears and warns Hellboy that “evil – it’s coming” and though he “won a battle” against the Blood Queen, there’s a bigger war coming.

The scene hints towards a sequel, obviously, despite the poor performance with critics.

Lobster Johnson was a character from the original comics, a crimefighter in the 1930s who fought everyone from baddie supernatural creatures to Nazi scientists.

The second scene is less tantalising for fans hoping for a sequel.

In the scene, the witch Baba Yaga speaks to an unseen figure and asks them to kill Hellboy and bring her his eye.

In the comics, however, the baddie taxed with getting Hellboy’s eye manages to get it.

The current comic book Hellboy is still missing an eye.

The plot of 2019’s Hellboy sees the legendary half-demon superhero called to the English countryside to battle a trio of rampaging giants.

There he discovers The Blood Queen, Nimue (Milla Jovovich, Resident Evil series), a resurrected ancient sorceress thirsting to avenge a past betrayal.

Suddenly caught in a clash between the supernatural and the human, Hellboy is now hell-bent on stopping Nimue without triggering the end of the world.

Critics have not been kind to the Hellboy remake, out in cinemas on April 11.

The Rotten Tomatoes critics’ consensus reads: “Bereft of the imaginative flair that made earlier Hellboys so enjoyable, this soulless reboot suggests Dante may have left a tenth circle out of his Inferno.”

With these harsh words, it is no wonder the film holds only a 10 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Metacritic weighs reviews differently and gives the film a still negative 31 citing one positive, 20 mixed, and 14 negative reviews.

Hellboy is now playing in cinemas.
