Gogglebox favourites Jenny Newby and Lee Riley encouraged their 77,000 followers to tune in to the reality show tonight, but admitted they won’t be catching up with it due to work commitments. From their joint Twitter account, they shared a selfie of the pair of them with the caption: “Hope you enjoy the show this evening we are filming tonight so we will miss it [shocked face emoji]. “Hope you don’t, happy Friday everyone #Gogglebox.” The TV duo’s post prompted many of their fans to comment, with one querying what they were filming for.
They commented: “What are you filming? Next weeks episode?!”
Another wrote: “We need to see Goggleboxers watching Gogglebox! [Crying with laughter emojis].”
A third penned: “You two are my absolute favourite on Gogglebox love you guys.”
Ahead of the episode last week, the duo urged their fans to watch the show and switch off from Brexit talks.
They commented: “Hope everyone is having a great day today but if your sick of the Brexit debates, well relax tonight have a drink and enjoy #Gogglebox at 9pm @Channel4.”(sic)
Following last week’s episode, they added: “Thank you all so much for the lovely tweets it makes our day as long as we make you smile, well it’s better than watching Brexit, cheers folks.”
Back in October, the duo laughed off rumours they were leaving the show after fans became confused about a “misleading” article online.
The article featured a picture of Jenny and Lee to announce former cast member Amy Tapper was leaving.
A Twitter user asked them: “@leegogglebox just heard you’re quitting Gogglebox, please tell me it’s not true.”
Lee responded: “B****y hell you no more than us,” followed by multiple crying with laughter emojis.
At the time, a representative for Channel 4 confirmed the rumour was untrue, telling Express.co.uk: “You can see from their responses it’s untrue.
“It seems to have come from a story about The Tappers which features a picture of Lee and Jenny which is misleading.”
Lee and Jenny joined the award-winning show in its fourth series and swiftly become one of viewers’ favourite pairings.
The pair previously opened up on why they believe they show’s viewers take to them.
Lee told What’s On TV: “Because we’re the same on the TV as we are in the pub. We haven’t changed at all.”
Jenny added: “We’re just like your neighbours next door.”
Lee jokingly added: “I wouldn’t like you living next door to me – you get on my nerves half the time.”
Gogglebox returns tonight on Channel 4 at 9pm.
