Conor McGregor reveals shock detail about Khabib fight after announcing fight talks

Conor McGregor locked horns with his successor at the summit of the lightweight division last October in the main event of UFC 229.

His bid to become a two-time 155lbs champion ended in the fourth round of the multi-million-pound contest, which he lost via submission to a neck crank.

McGregor wasn’t his usual light-footed self in the fight, in which he was dropped in the second round.

And the Irishman has partly attributed his lack of movement to a fractured foot, which he says he picked up in the build-up to his eagerly-anticipated return.

“I broke my foot 3 weeks out from the bout,” McGregor wrote on Twitter when asked by a fan. “What happened to your light on your foot in and out footwork against Khabib?”

He replied: “I still marched forward however, and also landed the final blows of the night. On his blood brother.

“I am happy with how the contest went and the lessons learned.

“In my fighting and more importantly my preparation. Time will reveal all.”

One of McGregor’s followers tried to mock him moments later by tweeting a video of Nurmagomedov punching him on the canvas and asking: “Which part were you happy about exactly?”

He replied: “Very happy with my defense. A precarious position with the head pinned against the fence.

“Every movement must be calculated as any overexertion leaves the guard open and could lead to a finishing blow.

“None of which came close. Zero facial damage taken and I won the next round.”

McGregor’s disclosing of his apparent foot injury before his showdown with Nurmagomeodv came shortly after he announced he’s resumed talks with the UFC brass over his next opponent.

He said: “In talks, in thoughts, and always and forever, In training!”

McGregor, 30, hasn’t fought since losing to Nurmagomedov as he was handed a sixth-month suspension for his part in the mass brawl which followed the fight.

His period of ineligibility ended on April 6, which means he’s free to return to the Octagon in the summer.

The UFC brass were hopeful of having Ireland’s first UFC belt holder return in July but have failed to reach an agreement with him.
