WhatsApp update – Huge upgrade may be coming but it’s not Dark Mode

WhatsApp is the most popular third-party chatting client in the world and is available on iPhone, Android smartphones and desktops via the firm’s web service.

One platform that is not currently natively supported by WhatsApp is tablets, in particular Apple’s iPad range.

Instead, those using such hardware have been pushed to use WhatsApp Web, the same iteration of the client used by desktops.

Not only does this require the user’s phone to still be connected to the internet, but it also fails to function as seamlessly as a specific app made for an iPad would.

However, WABetaInfo recently claimed the firm is working on a new app designed for the Apple tablet and showcased alleged screenshots of it in action.

WABetaInfo is a publication known for trawling through early versions of WhatsApp in an effort to gather information about forthcoming features.

The outlet insisted the new programme should allow users to seamlessly continue conversations with the same phone number on their tablet.

WhatsApp for iPad was stated to include the same functionality as the regular version of the software.

However, it was displayed the iPad app will take advantage of the tablet’s increased screen real estate.

For instance, the chat section of the programme was split into two halves; one displaying a list of active threads and another that showed the messages from one particular chat.

Essentially, it appears the iPad version of WhatsApp will allow users to view more information at once without the need to browse through as many menus.

While WABetaInfo’s claims will surely give Apple fans reason to get excited, it appears many WhatsApp users are still more concerned about a Dark Mode arriving.

Commenting on WABetaInfo’s tweet discussing the iPad app, one user said: “We want dark mode for Android!

“We want it now!”

Another wrote: “Dark mode?”

A third declared: “Dark mode -.-“

WhatsApp Dark Mode was first rumoured to be in development last year and fans have been eagerly waiting for it ever since.

While the feature does not have a firm release date, WABetaInfo has claimed it is in development for Android and iOS devices.

A Dark Mode for WhatsApp promises to make using the software easier on user eyes by replacing bright white colours with black or dark grey tones.
