Liverpool coach confirms contact with ONE star Jurgen Klopp has been tracking

The Portuguese international has already established himself as a favourite at Molineux, having joined the club from Porto in July 2017.

Neves was instrumental in helping the team win last season’s Championship title and remains a focal point in Nuno Espirito Santo’s impressive side which has taken to the Premier League like a duck to water.

He’s a player that has previously been linked to Liverpool during his time in his homeland, but now Jurgen Klopp’s coach Pep Ljinders has revealed his side are keeping tabs on Neves.

The Dutchman spent seven years in Portugal coaching Porto’s youth teams before moving to Merseyside.

“I know him very well, his ambition, his passion for the game, his professionalism,” he told O Jogo.

“I know what he gives to the team and this type of players always interest us.

“I recognised him when I saw him at Wolves. I saw technique, professionalism; I saw the 2013/14 player I knew.”

Ljinders was also asked whether he has been in contact with his former player.

“Yes, it was a special moment. He’s a man, he’s got a wife, a baby… It’s good to see my boys,” he added.

Neves scored from 25-yards for Wolves in their FA Cup victory over the Reds back in January.

He is set to play at Anfield on the final day of the Premier League season too, in a match which could decide the Premier League title and potentially earn him a move.

Jurgen Klopp warned Liverpool supporters last month that the club will not be spending similar amounts of cash to last year, where they broke two transfer world-records.

Instead the German will look to put faith in his current squad and build upon what he’s already assembled.

“I don’t want to talk exactly what we will do, but I don’t think this is a team at the moment where we have to spend the big money, or whatever,” he said.

“The best way to do it is bring together a group of players, try to develop them altogether and then stay together for a while. And that was maybe the main problem of Liverpool for the last decade.

“When they had a good team after a season they went all over the world. That will not happen this year for sure.”
