Susan Boyle: ‘Thank goodness they didn’t’ BGT star spills all on birthday fears

Britain’s Got Talent runner-up Susan Boyle, 58, who missed out on the win thanks to Diversity, celebrated her birthday with friends last week near her home in Blackburn, West Lothian. The singer said her companions “spoilt” her on her big day with “lovely gifts, including a hamper of spa products, which is perfect for my new bathroom”. But the TV star admitted she was glad there wasn’t 58 candles on her cake as she joked the amount could’ve caused a fire. She told the Daily Record: “I went out for a lunch and had a surprise birthday cake.

“Thank goodness they didn’t put 58 candles on it or we’d have been joined by the fire brigade.

“It was a great day and I felt very happy and loved by friends, family and, of course, my wonderful fans, who sent me cards, messages and gifts wishing me a happy birthday.”

Elsewhere on her Instagram page, Susan was swiftly inundated with birthday messages after her account shared a picture of her with a celebratory balloon.

She was seen smiling for the camera while wearing a birthday badge and holding on to a heart-shaped balloon.

In view of her 29,000 followers, they wrote: “#HappyBirthdaySusan! Keep on sharing your amazing talent and energy with the world. We are all wishing you a wonderful year ahead.”

One fan commented: “Wishing you a very Happy Birthday!!! Enjoy!”

A second added: “Happy birthday to a wonderful person. Keep your songs coming.”

As well as her birthday celebrations, Susan will celebrate the 10th anniversary of her Britain’s Got Talent audition next week.

The singer surprised the nation and judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan back in 2009 with her rendition of I Dreamed A Dream.

She went on to release her debut album with the same title, which remained at number one in the UK charts for four weeks.

Ahead of her milestone anniversary on the show, she added to the publication: “I’m looking forward to the next week celebrating 10 years since my first BGT audition – and what a wonderful 10 years it has been.”

The Scottish singer is believed to be worth a staggering £20 million, following her success on the show.

But despite earning well, Susan recently admitted she still loves in her parents house, despite owning a £300,000 five-bed detached property in her hometown.

She told The Sun: “I’m still in my parents’ house, my niece has got the plush house.”

Susan lives alone following the loss of her mother aged 91 in 2007 and her father Patrick, who died in 1997.

“I quite like it that way, it’s good,” she continued.

“It’s good to be in your mum’s house as well, there’s a lot of nice memories in my mum’s. I sort of feel she’s present here, somehow.”
