Mick Schumacher set for Ferrari F1 drive at German Grand Prix

Schumacher made his F1 debut last week when he tested for Ferrari and Alfa Romeo following the Bahrain Grand Prix.

During day one with Ferrari, the 20-year-old set the second fastest lap time, behind only Red Bull’s Max Verstappen.

He also impressed on day two, finishing sixth in the Alfa Romeo.

Schumacher, son of legendary driver Michael, is reportedly going to return to the Prancing Horse cockpit for FP1 in his home country on July 26.

That is according to German newspaper Konler Express, who says the youngster will drive in the morning session the Friday before the race.

Circuit marketing spokesperson Jorn Teske also spoke to the German outlet.

“First of all, we are pleased that Mick Schumacher has made such a successful start in Formula 2,” he said.

“We would also like to have seen him at the Hockenheimring in the battle for Championship points.

“His way into the F1 seems pre-drawn and a test here at the Hockenheimring in the context of the F1 weekend would be an absolute highlight for the German fans.”

Schumacher, who is competing in FP2 this campaign, was not over-awed by the occasion.

“I really enjoyed today,” he told Ferrari’s official website.

“It felt like home in the garage from the very first moment with a lot of people that know me since I was very young.

“The car accelerates out of the corners so well,” Schumacher told Auto Bild.

“But you still need to have respect.

“If you don’t, with over 1000 horse power it would be dangerous.”
