Man Utd, Barcelona and Real Madrid transfer stances on Christian Eriksen explained

Manchester United, Barcelona and Real Madrid are all expected to spend big this summer as they target trophies in their respective countries next season.

Eriksen, meanwhile, could leave Tottenham at the end of the campaign with his long-term future in north London shrouded in uncertainty.

The Denmark international’s contract at the club expires in 2020 and, consequently, Spurs may cash in this summer to avoid losing him for nothing.

Real Madrid have long appeared frontrunners to sign the former Ajax star when the transfer window reopens this summer.

But ESPN say United and Barcelona are also interested.

The Red Devils are likely to strengthen their attack as they target a brighter future under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

United could lose Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku this summer and Eriksen, who has flourished at Tottenham, may sign as a marquee replacement.

Barcelona, meanwhile, are always on the lookout for new attacking talent.

The Catalan giants are yet to see the best from Philippe Coutinho, who arrived from Liverpool in January 2018.

There has even been talk that Coutinho will be sold by Barcelona with United and Chelsea both sniffing about.

And Eriksen may be a replacement.

Real want the Tottenham star as they plan to jostle with Barcelona for the La Liga and Champions League crowns next season.

And ESPN claim Bayern Munich would also like to sign Eriksen.

Meanwhile, former Denmark international Jesper Olsen believes his compatriot should consider a move to La Liga this summer.

“Christian is clearly a very important player for anyone, he is world class,” Olsen said.

“Now there is talk that he might leave and there are reports in the UK that Tottenham are resigned to losing him, so Barcelona and Real Madrid would be a big step for him.

“It would be a big challenge for him but if clubs of that calibre come in for him and they start to talk to you, that is a huge opportunity and you must listen.

“He has been in the UK for a while, having joined from Ajax, and us Danes like to travel…”
