ITV GMB: ‘Wasn’t perfect’ Richard Madeley leaves viewers squirming with BGT interview

Good Morning Britain is being presented by Richard Madeley and Charlotte Hawkins while Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid take their Easter break.

And to kick off Monday morning, the GMB team welcomed Flakefleet Primary School to the show following on from their incredible performance on Britain’s Got Talent this weekend.

The cute Queen-inspired routine even bagged them David Walliams’ Golden Buzzer after they made the judge cry.

Richard said the performance even made his wife, Judy Finnegan, tear up, despite her nickname “Dry-Eyed Judy”.

As the interview continued, Richard said the performance “wasn’t perfect”, something which headteacher David McPartlin seemed to agree with.

“It definitely wasn’t perfect,” he laughed. “But that was the point.”

It was this question in particular which caught viewers’ attention and left some on Twitter squirming.

One fan wrote: “Richard Madeley’s interview with the school kids was terrible, saying their audition wasn’t perfect!”

A second tweeted: “Richard Madeley reminding Flakefleet Prinary school that their much-celebrated BGT Golden Buzzer performance ‘wasn’t perfect’  someone’s gotta bring them back down to Earth eh!”

A third posted: “Why on Earth have they got Richard Madeley back on #GMB his interview skills are shambolic! Bring back @piersmorgan.”

Nevertheless, the school kids and their headteacher clearly loved being interviewed by Richard and Charlotte and went into great detail about their routine from Britain’s Got Talent.

They explained how special it was going to the BGT auditions, telling the hosts how great Ant and Dec were with the kids.

David recalled: “They were all lovely when they met us and they treat us like royalty.

“I think Ant and Dec helped push the trolley!”

Now Flakefleet Primary School are through to the live semi-finals, Richard and Charlotte were keen to know what they were going to surprise viewers with in their next performance.

The school kids insisted it was a “secret”, but David did let slip something he had asked for, but wasn’t allowed.

He giggled: “I wanted to fire a kid out of a cannon but that might be a bit dangerous!”

Flakefleet wasn’t the only thing that made viewers cry at the weekend.

Britain’s Got Talent viewers were in tears as Ant and Dec were reunited on screen.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV from 6am.
