EU NIGHTMARE: Eurosceptics 'to DOMINATE' Brussels – shock report predicts 150+ seats

The study put together by news website Politico claims that at least 150 troublesome candidates are set to win seats in the upcoming ballot. If the eurosceptic groups manage to organise themselves into one bloc, they will challenge the traditional parliamentary giants – Jean-Claude Juncker’s European People’s Party. Italy’s deputy prime minister has already suggested he is preparing to form a eurosceptic super-alliance, that would have the potential to put a serious dent in parliamentary decision making.

According to the polling, taken from across Europe, traditionally eurosceptic groups will return at least 159 MEPs.

The centre-right EPP are expected to secure 177 seats in the new Parliament, a shock decrease of 42 MEPs.

A European Parliament insider said the shift in mood across the institution comes as the more traditional parties lose touch with ordinary voters.

The source said: “The mainstream parties look set to lose big time because they are tone deaf to the concerns of ordinary, working people.

“Whatever the question, they seem to think that the answer is more Europe. But in recent elections results across the Continent prove that most voters disagree.”

The biggest winners of the race to fill the Parliament with eurosceptics is the Europe of Nations and Freedom, home to Mr Salvini’s League.

According to the study, they are set to win 59 seats, an increase of 24 MEPs from their last return in 2014.

And even without the British Conservative MEPs, the European Conservatives and Reformists are set to win 62 seats, a small drop of 11.

The total number of seats is set to decrease from 751 to 705 due to Britain’s departure from the EU.

But Theresa May will have to pledge to hold elections in May if she is to secure a long Brexit delay from EU leaders this week.

This will see the Parliament continue in its current form with 751 MEPs.

Nigel Farage has vowed to deliver a “big shock” with his newly-formed Brexit Party if the Prime Minister does organise euro ballots for Britain.

In response to a caller to his LBC radio show, Mr Farage said: “The Conservative party are in for a big shock at the ballot box.

“Bring it on.”
