PS4 Surprise update: Don’t forget to download this PlayStation game bonus for free

Earlier this week it was revealed that PS4 gamers would have the chance to play a AAA game experience on their PlayStation console for free.

So for anyone who might have missed it, now is the time to download Call of Duty Black Ops 4 on PS4.

Because not only do you have until the end of April to play the Battle Royale mode for no extra charge, but you can also test out a brand new map.

Alcatraz Island was added to Blackout earlier this week, making it a very important addition to the game.

“The divergent environments across Alcatraz range from rocky shorelines and caves, rusting Navy vessel wreckage, abandoned field hospitals and tents, a temporary helipad, industrial warehouses, apartment blocks, a variety of overgrown foliage, a powerhouse with a cooling tower, and dominating the “top of the Rock” is the derelict prison itself, where you can expect the firefights to be the most intense,” the official Treyarch description reveals.

“As well as looking out for foes, you’ll need to look up too. Traversing the nine named destinations across Alcatraz is totally different compared to the original Blackout map. Alcatraz has a ridge-like topography, with a much higher building density, more tight corners to ambush and attack from, and a real sense of verticality as you ascend to the main prison on the highest ground.”

And there’s a good reason to get involved now, rather than waiting until the end of the month.

There have been reports of problems connecting via the free-to-play version Black Ops 4 Blackout.

So if you’re are interested, it’s probably worth trying it now and being ready for when everything has been ironed out.

It should also be noted that a PS Plus subscription will be required, as the normal Black Ops 4 multiplayer requires this.

Unlike the free open betas run by Treyarch before the game launched, this is using the existing Call of Duty server system.

Blackout players accessing the mode for free should be able to play Solos, Duos, and Quads, while any progression you make can be saved and transferred if you upgrade to a paid version of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.

It should also be noted that Alcatraz is currently a PS4 exclusive, which will be released on Xbox One and PC next week.

However, as Call of Duty doesn’t support cross-play, players won’t see an uptick in player numbers.

For those who don’t have an active PS Plus subscription, there’s an obvious Battle Royale alternative that can be downloaded today.

Apex Legends is the latest BR title to take the gaming world by storm and is currently running its first Season.

A new character called Octane was recently added to the game on all platforms, which is free-to-play.

The bonus for playing Apex Legends on PS4 is that it doesn’t require a PS Plus account to run, unlike on the Xbox One, which does need an active Xbox Live Gold subscription.
