James Bond 25: 'Bond girl' role would be 'a step down' for Jodie Comer – 'Nauseating'

007’s female co-star in these movies is often – somewhat divisively – referred to as the “Bond girl”. The phrase has been criticised for the way it contributes towards the idea of the character being nothing more than a plaything for the titular spy; and for that reason Luke Jennings – the original author of Killing Eve – is decidedly not sold on the idea of Comer being involved.

Sharing news of her odds being slashed, he tweeted: “What a step down that would be.

“Craig is exactly twice her age. And is there a more nauseating phrase than ‘Bond girl’?”

Indeed, Craig is 51-years-old, while Comer is 26.

But she needn’t necessarily be a love interest – after all, Lea Seydoux is known to be returning to her role as Dr. Madeleine Swann, the romantic lead of 2015’s Spectre.

Still, there seems to be no concrete evidence to support the idea of Comer being cast, other than hype around her stealth skills in Killing Eve, which is about to return for its second season.

Coral said as they slashed her down to 2/1: “Jodie Comer was the star of the show in the opening series of Killing Eve and ahead of the return of the drama, punters are backing her to become the next Bond girl where she is now the favourite in the betting.”

It was previously suggested that Lupita Nyong’o was top of producers’ wishlist, but she was subsequently ruled out.

Emma Stone and Dakota Johnson have also previously been the subject of much speculation.
