Dan Walker: BBC Breakfast host declares ‘absolute carnage’ with co-star amid Brexit mishap

Dan Walker, 42, took to Twitter to clarify exactly what the Prime Minister Theresa May gave to her Cabinet during their Brexit discussions. The BBC Breakfast presenter wrote: “Great to discuss all things #Brexit with @tnewtondunn & @NicolaRBartlett but… I still need to clear this up Tom… “Did Theresa May give the cabinet ‘cheap chilli & red wine’ or ‘cheap Chilean red wine’?” He finished: “@louiseminchin says I may have got the wrong end of the bottle,” followed by a crying face emoji.

The journalist added a picture of a dish which appeared to be a chilli soup.

His question comes after the BBC favourite and his co-star Louise Minchin, 50, were joined on the breakfast sofa earlier this week with political correspondents Tom Newton Dunn and Nicola Bartlett to discuss the furore around Brexit.

Political editor Tom took the opportunity to confirm it was in fact “cheap Chilean wine” but apologised to the BBC host for “causing trouble”.

He replied: “Or even cheap, chilly-and-red wine (ie, overly cooled)? I can confirm it was cheap, Chilean red wine.

“Wouldn’t never have brought it up if I realised the sofa trouble I’ve caused. Sorry.”

Dan replied: “Absolute carnage here but I take full responsibility.”

Louise also responded, saying to Dan: “You are right.”

Other social media users rushed to respond to Dan’s tweet with one person writing: “I was pretty sure he said cheap Chilean red wine!! But, now you’re making me question what I heard?!!”

Another person quipped: “I think we need to be careful belittling the value of Chilean red wine, in years to come they may be one of our few tariff free trading partners #brexitmess.”

A third person added: “Sounds like HM Government needs a specialist on the case!”

Meanwhile, the BBC star has swapped the morning sofa for the racecourse as he hosted a Q&A at the Grand National yesterday.

The father-of-two was joined by football legend Sir Kenny Daglish and took to Instagram to share a snap of them together.

In view of his 70,000 followers, he upload a selfie of the pair and wrote: “Not a bad partner in crime for a day out at @aintreeracecourse.

“No door is closed to you when you have Sir Kenneth Dalglish in tow.”

During the course of the day at day one of the Grand National 2019, Dan was joined by Sir Alex Ferguson, 77, Michael Owen, 39, Beth Tweddle, 34, and John Barnes, 55.

BBC Breakfast continues Monday on BBC One at 6am.
