ITV This Morning: Eamonn Holmes takes swipe at ex Strictly Come Dancing star Brendan Cole

This Morning ended the show with Brendan Cole joining presenters Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes on the sofa to discuss his latest adventure.

Swapping the ballroom shoes for backpacking, the former Strictly Come Dancing professional had embarked on a journey to Rome where religion was discussed along the way.

And whilst speaking about the new BBC2 series Pilgrimage: The Road to Rome, and his confirmed view as a strong atheist, Eamonn couldn’t help but make a dig at Brendan’s time on the dancing competition.

After showing a short clip of the Pope greeting well-wishers, he said: “The amazing thing, especially the people in the Catholic church believe is God’s representative on earth, which is the Holy Father the Pope there, Pope Francis.

“Now you being you and you telling us your views there and looking at authority – I’m thinking of Strictly here,” the presenter teased. “This really was, was there any difference when you met the Pope there, was it like talking to a head judge?”

After laughing at his remark, Brendan answered: “It was an incredible experience. Given that he is probably -“

Before Ruth interjected and added: “He embraced you!”

Those watching at home saw a video of the Pope hugging the celebrities and Brendon added: “He warmly embraced us all.

“He knew we all had different faiths and backgrounds, it was a really special thing to do.

“We went in there going, ‘Look I’m not religious but I’d really like to meet the man that has this power, the figurehead of a fairly powerful organisation’.

“And we wanted to go in with respect and I didn’t go in there to create trouble, yet at the same time I couldn’t really miss the opportunity to put something to the man himself, something I believe.”

Brendan is one of eight celebrities who is embarking on this journey to discount more about his belief and faith.

He alongside actors Les Dennis and Lesley Joseph, as well as comedians Stephen K Amos and Katy Brand, were joined by Olympic long jump champion Greg Rutherford.

Irish Eurovision Song contest winner Dana as well as television presenter Mehreen Baig also took part.

It comes after Eamonn was told off by wife and co-presenter Ruth.

During the opening segment, viewers tuned in to see the pair talk to a guest who couldn’t feel pain.

And in a bid to clarify the difference, Eamonn thought it would be funny to pinch Ruth.

He remarked: “Unlike my wife who can feel everything!” to which he then turned to her and pinched her forearm.

Shocked by his action, Ruth exclaimed: “Ow, ow!” Before demanding: “Stop it! Stop it!”

Those watching at home saw Ruth rub her arm to get rid of the pain.

This Morning returns Sunday at 10.30am on ITV.
