Celtic boss Neil Lennon agrees with ONE thing Rangers manager Steven Gerrard said all week

The former Liverpool midfielder accused Celtic of “playing the victim card” during Sunday’s fiery encounter.

Scott Brown was hit with a flailing arm from Alfredo Morelos in the first half, resulting in his fifth red card of the season.

Ryan Kent then shoved the midfielder in the face in the second half and has had the book thrown at him from the Scottish FA.

And when Celtic secured all three points to go 13 points clear at the top, Brown couldn’t help but dance at the full-time whistle to wind up the Rangers players.

Neil Lennon has now hit back at Gerrard as the war of words continues.

The Northern Irishman said: “The only rational thing Steven Gerrard has said this week is that they played the best team in the country on Sunday.

“We should be talking about our form since the turn of the year. The players play the game the right way and within the laws of the game.”

The former midfielder continues to defend his players from any wrongdoing, particularly his captain who has faced fierce criticism for his antics.

“My players have been exemplary, absolutely. They are under immense provocation themselves,” he told Celtic TV.

“Scott Brown has nothing to defend himself for.

“His treatment on the pitch was nothing short of disgraceful. He’s been elbowed, he’s been hit in the face but he takes it, he stands up to it and he comes back for more.

“It’s the character of the man. So you get the usual nonsense, trying to put the eggs in the same basket.

“Not only in the current [squad], Scott will go down in the annals of history. He’s a great player, a modern-day great.

“He knows his way around the pitch and even at 33 he’s playing some great football.

“He’s now captaining us to hopefully eight in a row and there aren’t many who could do that.”
