Xbox One price WARNING: Bad news for Xbox fans, as Microsoft follows PlayStation example

Xbox One users have been dealt a big blow today, as Microsoft announces plans to increase the price of Xbox Live.

In a message to fans, Microsoft said that the price of Xbox Live Gold subscriptions would increase on May 8.

Monthly subscriptions are only going up by £1, while quarterly memberships will increase by £3.

This means that from May 8, you’ll be able to subscribe to Xbox Live for £6.99 for one month, or £17.99 for three months.

But it’s the 12 month subscriptions that have seen the biggest increase, jumping from £39.99 a year to £49.99 a year.

The price increase puts the price of Xbox Live on par with Sony’s annual PlayStation Plus membership.

Microsoft said that the increase is to keep prices in line with those in Europe.

“To ensure gamers have consistent pricing for Xbox Live Gold across Europe we are making changes to UK pricing from May 8th,” Microsoft explains.

“Prices will rise by £1 a month for our monthly subscriptions, £3 for our quarterly subscriptions and by £10 a year for an annual membership.

“This new pricing is aligned to the changes we made in the region in 2016 as we strive to offer our members premium gaming and entertainment services at a fair price.

“We have notified members whose accounts are on recurring billing in the UK so they are aware well in advance.”

Needless to say, if you are thinking of renewing your Xbox Live Gold subscription, now is the time to do it.

Xbox Gold subscribers are able to access online multiplayer and download free games every month.

The April Games with Gold titles include The Technomancer and Star Wars Battlefront 2 from the original Xbox.

April 16 will see the launch of Outcast: Second Contact on Xbox One and Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter 2 for Xbox 360.
