Richard Osman Twitter: Pointless presenter hits back over promotion claim ‘I give up!’

Richard Osman was slammed by a Twitter user last night after he shared his views on BBC show The Repair Shop. The Pointless co-host gushed about the programme, which sees experts revive heirlooms and antiques after starting last back in March 2017. The 48-year-old branded the offering “warm and charming” in a post shared with his 774,000 followers. However, one user took offence at his upload and suggested he only gushed about BBC shows – the same channel which airs his quiz with Alexander Armstrong.

Richard wasted no time in responding and pointed out that he was also “banging on about Home” just days earlier.

He had initially posted: “The absolute best show on telly Repair Shop, starts again today on BBC1 at 4.30.

“If you haven’t seen previous series, it is so warm and charming. It’s just a pure joy to watch.”

The viewer then wrote back: “I give up with you promoting the BBC… Repair Shop… extremely similar to the cup of tea man on C4?”

It was then that Richard pointed out that he hasn’t only worked for the BBC and referenced the Channel 4 comedy, which kicked off last month.

He tweeted: “I work for Channel 4 just as much as I work for the BBC. I only tweet about shows I love. I was banging on about Home last week.”

“Love that one x,” they then stated, before saying sorry to the small screen favourite: “Apologies Richard x.”

He then added: “No apology needed, but thank you.”

As well as appearing on the BBC in the likes of The One Show, Dragons’ Den: Pitches to Riches and House Of Games, he has also popped up on rival channels.

These have included Channel 4’s Child Genius and Alternative Election Night, as well as ITV’s Re-Play 2018.

Richard has also produced programmes for these broadcasters, including Whose Line Is It Anyway?, 8 Out of 10 Cats, 10 O’Clock Live and Prize Island.

Meanwhile, he was not short of replies in agreement with his statement about The Repair Shop.

Columnist Sali Hughes told him: “Love it so much. It makes me cry.”

Richard agreed: “I’ve already cried during this episode,” as someone else went on: “It’s so great. I spent about half an hour at Ricochet just gurgling about it.”

He added: “We used to go on school trips to Singleton, where they film it.”

Pointless airs weekdays at 5.15pm on BBC One.
