Nipsey Hussle dead: Police arrest murder suspect in LA after rapper is gunned down

A suspect in the murder of Nipsey Hussle has been arrested by police in Los Angeles, the local police department has confirmed. The 29-year-old had been on the run after fleeing the scene of the crime in a waiting vehicle, Los Angeles Police Department announced. A statement released by police read: “The suspected killer of Nipsey Hussle, has been arrested and is in police custody. “Thank you to both our community for the heightened awareness/vigilance, and our partners at Los Angeles Police Department HQ.”

Nispey, real name Ermias Asghedom, was shot dead outside his clothing store, Marathon Clothing, on Sunday.

He is believed to have been targeted following an verbal altercation with the suspect, who Los Angeles Police Chief, Michel Moore, said left the scene but returned with a gun and opened fired.

According to TMZ, surveillance footage showed a man in a dark shirt firing at Nipsey at least three times before fleeing the scene.

Two other people were injured in the shooting and the investigation is ongoing.

Tributes have poured in for the rapper, who was nominated for Best Rap Album at this year’s Grammy Awards.

Artists including Drake, Rihanna and J Cole paid their respects to the late star, who grew up in south Los Angeles.

On Twitter, Rihanna wrote: “This doesn’t make any sense! My spirit is shaken by this!

“Dear God may his spirit rest in peace and may you grant divine comfort to all his loved ones! I’m so sorry this happened to you Nipsey Hussle.”

Meanwhile, Drake described the star as “a man of respect and a don”, while J Cole referred to him as a “legend”.

He added: “I respect and admire your career path and what you did for the neighbourhood. My heart broke today when I saw the news.

“I’m praying for your loved ones. This was supposed to be the year we got one in. God had bigger plans for you.”

Pharrell Williams penned: ”You were about something positive and for your community in every chance you had to speak and because of that you inspired millions, millions who will uphold your legacy forever. Rest amongst the stars.”

Rapper and produced Diddy said he was “confused” by the musician’s tragic death and said he felt “honoured” to have worked with him.

Nipsey released multiple mixtapes dating back to 2005 during his 10-plus years in the music industry.

Also, he worked with the likes of 50 Cent, Snoop Dogg, Childish Gambino, Kendrick Lamar, Tyga, Ne-Yo and many more.

He is survived by his two children and his girlfriend, Lauren London.
