Joker movie TRAILER release date: Will Joaquin Phoenix match Heath Ledger Batman villain?

Last year Phoenix shot his very own solo movie as The Joker, helmed by The Hangover’s Todd Phillips. And now the first teaser trailer for Joker is set to launch tomorrow, following the release of a poster. The new minimalist image shows Phoenix in clown make up – but splattered with a little blood – and looking up to sky. The poster’s tagline reads: “Put on a happy face.”

The film’s premise reads: “In 1981, a failed stand-up comedian, disregarded by his society, turns to a life of crime and chaos in Gotham City.”

Separate to Jared Leto’s incarnation in Suicide Squad, this fresh reboot sees Phoenix play Arthur Fleck in an origin story of the Clown Prince of Crime.

While Batman – who turned 80 last week – doesn’t feature, Bruce Wayne will appear as a boy, alongside his father Thomas Wayne.

Fans will know Batman’s parents were murdered in front of Bruce after a night out at the Opera.

Following the disappointing box office and reviews for recent DC movie outings like Justice League, it seems Warner Bros are trying a different approach to the franchise.

Joker is lower in budget and appears to be a more adult movie than your average family superhero movie.

So perhaps we could be seeing a rival to Heath Ledger’s incarnation in The Dark Knight, who is widely considered to be the best version of the Joker.

Meanwhile, a potential leak could reveal big plot spoilers for Joker. WARNING POTENTIAL SPOILERS AHEAD.

According to an alleged source on Instagram, who put up a number of set photos and videos, Arthur is Thomas Wayne’s son.

Apparently, Thomas had an affair with Arthur’s mother, meaning he’s Bruce’s half-brother.

Of course, this is just a rumour, but perhaps Joker will be connected to Matt Reeves’ Batman movie – which follows a younger Caped Crusader.

Joker is released in UK cinemas on October 4, 2019.
