Gmail finally catches up to Outlook with this new feature

Gmail is Google’s email client that remains more popular than Outlook, according to data firm Statista.

In 2018 the outlet stated Gmail had 27 percent of all email market share while Outlook only had 8 percent.

Gmail is hugely popular for its simplicity and vast array of features.

Google regularly updates Gmail as part of an effort to introduce new tools and improvements.

In fact, the firm recently announced a trio of fresh functions for Gmail as a celebration for its 15th birthday that seek to make it better than ever.

The most notable of the three is the ability to schedule emails.

Now, when a user is composing a message, Gmail’s send button will have an arrow pointing upwards next to it.

Clicking on the arrow will present users with an option dubbed “schedule send” that will allow fans to choose the time they want an email to be delivered.

Discussing the new functionality, Google said: “We understand that work can often carry over to non-business hours, but it’s important to be considerate of everyone’s downtime.

“We want to make it easier to respect everyone’s digital well-being, so we’re adding a new feature to Gmail that allows you to choose when an email should be sent.

“Just write your email as you normally would, then schedule it to arrive in your recipient’s inbox at a later date and time.”

The ability to schedule messages has been present in Outlook for some time.

When composing an email using the Microsoft software, users should press the “more options” box from the tags group section.

From there fans will be presented with a menu that has “delivery options” on it.

If users tick the box that says “do not deliver before”, they are then able to choose the date and time the email should be sent.

In addition to allowing users to schedule emails, the Gmail update also brings Smart Compose to all Android devices and makes messages more interactive by allowing users to perform tasks within them.

Discussing the new additions, the American tech giant said: “Recently, we announced changes to make email more dynamic, interactive and actionable. Now, you can quickly take action on email—like respond to a comment thread in Google Docs, schedule a meeting, or fill out a questionnaire—right from within the message itself.

“This makes it easier to stay focused on the task at hand since you won’t have to open a new tab or leave your inbox. We’re also making it possible for info within an email to be kept up-to-date, so the content is always accurate no matter when you look at it.”
