Galaxy Note 9 update – Samsung phablet could be set for three monumental changes

Galaxy Note 9 is the newest version of the Samsung phablet that debuted back in August.

One of the biggest differentiating factors between the Galaxy Note series and Samsung’s S-series is the fact the former comes with an S-Pen stylus that is capable of performing myriad unique functions.

Galaxy Note 9 is less than eight months old, but rumours surrounding its successor, the presumably-titled Galaxy Note 10, have already started swirling.

The Galaxy Note 10 has been rumoured to make three substantial changes from its predecessor and here is Express.co.uk’s collated list of what may be in store.

Multiple Galaxy Note 10 models

A new report from Korean outlet The Bell has claimed the Galaxy Note 10 will launch in two models; one with an expectedly large display and the other with a smaller panel.

Citing “members of the component industry”, the outlet added the smaller variant is expected to be exclusive to European markets.

The Bell declared the standard Note 10 will boast a 6.7-inch display but unfortunately did not discuss the size of the smaller version’s panel.

It was speculated that just like the Galaxy S10e that offers a 5.8-inch display for Android fans, the smaller Note is intended to appeal to customers who want to be able to more easily use their handset with one hand.

The outlet did not discuss the naming of the two products – Samsung currently differentiates its most premium Galaxy S-line handsets by adding a “+” in the name of the larger model.

However, it is unknown if the South Korean tech giant will adopt the same naming conventions if its next Note arrives in two models.

The removal of the headphone jack

Back in October last year South Korean outlet ETNews issued a report claiming Samsung will remove the headphone jack in its next Note device.

Citing sources familiar with the matter, the outlet stated Samsung will provide a USB-C to 3.5millimetre headphone jack adapter in the box.

Interestingly, the outlet said there was “no detailed reason” why Samsung is planning to remove the established port.

Samsung is currently one of the few smartphone manufacturers around that still includes a headphone jack in its devices.

The firm’s four new Galaxy S10 handsets all have the socket.

It is worth noting Samsung has not commented on the accuracy of ETNews’ report.

Buttonless design

ETNews has also declared the Galaxy Note 10 is expected to be Samsung’s first smartphone that has no traditional buttons.

Instead, it was claimed the product could harness touch sensors and require the user to perform gestures in order to achieve processes such as locking the device or adjusting volume.

If true, such a design decision would surely be controversial amongst Android fans that are familiar with traditional keys.

It is worth noting none of the rumours discussed above have been confirmed by Samsung.

Instead, it is expected the firm will wait until later this year to discuss the future of its Galaxy Note series.
